    Allis Chalmers 5040 Diesel

Looking at an Allis Chalmers 5040. Serial plate has been painted over, but the top row of numbers are, 460610; bottom row, 74388. Three cylinder diesel motor, hour meter broken, can not be read. Runs, but smokes, clutch out, transmission suspect. Good rubber, tin is sillied up. Nose is...

    Ebay seller

Sadly, the real problem is with Ebay, not the seller. Ebay has a problem with their shipping rate calculator. I have been a buyer and a seller on ebay for years. I do get the weight right, and I do get the dimensions right, but when the seller buys the item, it loads a shipping rate that...

    coyote hunting this weekend

I would not worry about your dogs being attacked by the coyotes. The dogs might force the issue, but unless there is a group of five or more, the yips will put a bunch of distance between them and your dogs. During the daylight, your dogs have the advantage, after dark, not so much. During...

    bead breaking pics.

What"s wrong with doing the job right? Just spend the $200 and buy a bead breaker. Then you can break them on the tractor like a professional. Two tires changed and you are ahead of the tire service truck.

They are too slow for tractor rides, most guys want the live power & hydraulics to farm with, & power steering is pain to add to this tractor. Yes, a Charlynn unit can go on this tractor, but if you find a good unit, it will make its way onto a fleetline or newer tractor first. You almost need...

    4-210 engine replacement

Don't forget many of those 3208's with turbos were in AG Chem's Terragator. Might find a good one at a dismantler's yard. Many of those around.

    Oliver Charlynn Power Steering unit

Having trouble finding a replacement bracket for the Charlynn torque motor on a Oliver Fleetline. Thinking about having one water cut and bent to copy the orginal. Set-up costs for the CAD drawings are rather high. Anybody else need a couple to spread the costs?

    Oliver 80 rims

I have only seen a few 80's and all of them had cast centers. If I am not mistaken, yours should too. But given its age, it could have been changed. Any 38 inch drop center rim should fit. Keep the cast center, and buy only the rims. Farmall H or M rims will work. Cast center is 34 inch...

    77 Overheating

Before I would start tearing it down. I would get a cooling system check done. With this system, you remove your radiator cap, put on the adapter that fits your radiator top, and pump it up. As stated before, the 77 is a no pressure system, so don"t do much. This will tell you if the system...

I have an Oliver 80 that I am trying to switch the rear rims & rubber onto another set of rims & rubber. Can't seem to get the rim off of the cast center. I know it has been there over 60 years, and it seems pretty stupid to be asking, but I can't seem to get them apart. All the wedges are...

    oliver 1655d problems

I had a 1750 with the same condition, the internal flex plate in the pump that supports the governor was broken. Time to rebuild my pump.

    Super 99 rear hubs

I built a manual puller out of a solid chunk of bar stock 4 inch by 6 inch. Had the threaded rod pulling on the hub, pushing on the axle. Had the bar turned so the 4 inch side was up against the axle. After putting enough pressure on the bar to deflect it about 1/4 of an inch, we took the top...

    1650 chain and sprocket

Might want to check the motor mount bolts. I have seen a 1955 in a local shop that the mounting bolts were run loose for many, many, hours. There was at least a quarter of an inch of wear on the engine tub boss. Not to mention an equal amount gone off the engine block where it meets the frame.

    1800 Block Repairs

Well, good advice to take the time to fix it right. However, if it is just a weap or slow leak, I would feed it some silver seal radiator sealer. See if that $4.95 fix will hold it. This will work as long as it is not an active crack where the two surfaces can work across each other.
