Got my Industrial 8n Block in progress

I would have had the extra expense of boring for .090s. I doubt it will be any problem as I will not be using the tractor for heavy work.

    stuck seats

I got the video and saw how the modified screwdriver is ground/used. Too tight for that. Will try releasing the lower clips and I am taking my time. don't need to crack the block.

    stuck seats

Working on my 50s 8n engine for overhaul, have a delima. I can't get the valve seats to release so I can pull the pins/clips. Have made a tool to pry and can only access the exhaust ports and have only moved one and even then not enough to pull the clip free. A couple of thoughts, a pin held...

    Oil on brake pads

I just got my back wheels on my 8n broke down and back together. I was able to check the hubs & brake stuff & seals. If you take the time to dissasemble you'll be ahead of the game in knowing what it all looks like inside of that drum. Took a lotta impact wrench work to get there on mine.

Jubilee Steering Box Lower Thrust Bearing Retainer Eyelet

I just replaced the same bearing/retainer. Was able to get them at local Ford NH store. The old rivet was good so just glued it in with JBweld. Nice lathework on your rivet. Looks like you could have made the rivet retainer as one piece too.

    Got some Valuable info

Sooo, since I wrote the post, I checked the airfilter canaster and the top was very dirty, but the wire mesh gutts showed no signs of oil, the downtube to carb had no oil residue, so I think that cause is out. Dell, I'd have to remove pistions to find out about the oilring? tractor ran for long...

    Got some Valuable info

So, I'm trying to figure why my '50s 8N is blowing blue smoke, tore it down did a dry comp test, showed 90psi on 3 & 85 on one. Took head off looked over valves, looks good there [will lap & add new seals while things are apart] Stopped at tractor shop and mechanic ask if I had the oil bath...

    corn head grease

I just used some in my steering box and would think it'd be okay in things like tierod ends, spindles, and the like, but not sure it's as good as other types. Can you take the xtras back for a refund/exchange?

    Toe-in on front of 8N

Thx guys, I didn't catch that in the manual. I'll look for the marks as a guide as I will be cutting and welding back the tie rods. I've tried to remove the tie rod ends for adjusting but they are frozen. I'll put new ones on the list of things to replace.

    Toe-in on front of 8N

I got my steering box adjusted and filled with corn head grease [hole in colum is great for finishing it off]. I see that the drag link arms rotate further backwards each way to compensate for outside radius of the turn [pretty cool engineering] When I get the front back together do I need to...

    1948- 8N oil pressure prime

Please refrain from using a cinderblock to support the tractor under the tranny. They don't have good compression resistance and can crumble. A crib made of 2 stacks of 6x6 blocks + a 4x4 gets the height about right, then add some metal shims to lighten the load on the front axle/wheels for easy...
