    Sherman Trans

    Dean, Can you explain please? I thought a Sherman was self contained as far as oiling goes, but thinking about it now it makes sense that they oil from within the tranny compartment. I'm guessing that they refill & drain (from overfull) through the shaft bearings whilst in use?

    The operator will stand on that left side pedastal & run the rig, his helper will stand on the right side when it's time to make a connection & add a joint of pipe. he will have a "spanner" looking wrench that will fit a groove nothched in his pipe, slip the spanner on & set the drillstring down...

    The 57 & later did not go back to open shift rails did they? I tried posting some pictures here of the one I'm looking at but, it makes them pretty blury for some reason. Guess maybe if we had a few beers they may come into focus!!!!

    Saw a step down on there the other day for about that if I remember correctly.... I was pretty sure that the one I'm looking at was a pre 3rd generation, but now I am not so sure. I went & did some research on John Smiths site and the top cover fits for a pre 3rd...but the slinger sounds more...
