    Farmall H

I've got #FBH 647. There is also no evidence that it ever had a serial number tag. Serial number is hand stamped on right frame rail near the magneto. Engine block also has matching serial number. Have read that some of the early 39's left the factory without tag, but no one seems to know why.

    Barin' It Over

That term still is in use today. Worked at a oil refinery for 35 years until retired 3 years ago. We had a couple large Cooper-Bessmer positive displacement compressors from the 1930's that had to be "barred over" several times before starting them. This made sure there were no mechanical...

Article on flood insurance creating a problem

Be careful about wanting the government to take over more land area. The federal government already owns 30% of the land area in this country. Like higher property taxes? Every acre the government takes possession of comes off the tax roles. Which means the remaining privately held property...

    F-12 engine questions

Yeah, I'm familiar with the oil slinger. The ID on the felt washer seems to fit the OD of the front pulley seal surface, too big for the crank. It's probably no big deal if it's there or not, but I've got it, gotta use it!

    F-12 engine questions

The screen seems to fit either way. I can't really think of a reason it would matter if the oil level was correct. So felt washer goes in cover before actual seal is installed? If not I don't know how it would stay in place as the front pulley is installed. Thanks again.

    F-12 engine questions

Moving along on assembling the engine on my F-12 and have a couple questions. Took apart the oil pump for cleaning. I can't remember which way the pickup screen was oriented, does the screen half face the front or rear of the engine? Also, in gasket set I have a felt washer for the front...

    Farmall farmerizing

HA! I did the same thing a few years ago. Was building a bar-b-que shelter in the backyard and needed some 1/2" washers. Went to the local big box store and they wanted 28 cents apiece for them. Wouldn't do it. Drilled out some quarters. Worked good and are a conversation starter.

    F-12 engine question

Didn't notice if there was a soft plug here before block went to be hot tanked. This is the end of the main oil galley on the front of the block. Do I need to put a plug here or does the gasket between the block and front plate seal this? Thanks.

    1936 F-12 proper color

Not sure. It seems there is a lot of argument about the "proper" color gray since nobody has a color picture of a new F-12 leaving the factory!

    1936 F-12 proper color

Am getting to the point where I'm starting to think about painting the F-12 I've been working on. Serial #FS 58394. That makes it a 1936. The information I have is that the color changed from grey to red in November 1936. Does anyone have info on month of manufacture by the serial number...

    International Refrigerator

I've got a matching pair in the shop. Fridge and Freezer both made April of '51. Both still work great. If they take a bit more electricity, I don't care. Try and buy a fridge made today that will still be working 70 years from now.

    F-12 engine bolt torques

Finished engine teardown yesterday on the 1936 F-12 I recently acquired. Block and head are off the the machine shop for clean-up and valve job. Started thinking about putting things back together last night. I have a reprint of the service manual, but nowhere does it have bolt torque...

    Source for F-12 engine

Thanks for all the comments and advice guys. I think James Williams comments are sound and that's the way I'm gonna head unless more issues are discovered.
