    4440 lumpy steering feeling

Does anyone know what the difference is between the steering valve for a 2wd vs a hydraulic front wheel assist? The part # of the old one that I have off the tractor is R110470 which crosses to an AR72338 which is for a 2wd. John deere can order this one. Number for front wheel assist one is...

    4440 lumpy steering feeling

We're at 2300 psi. 400 hours on new oil and filters, and magnet was put in suction screen at that time. I say filters because its a Powershift. I think quads only have 1 filter if I'm not mistaken. How easily or hard should that spool move in the block? I took both end plugs out and can push on...

    4440 lumpy steering feeling

Steering is not smooth. As you're turning, you can feel it turn easy, then hard, then easy. It's not a nice steady turn. Thinking something in the steering motor is wore out?

    Rockshaft housing preventative maintenance

Tearing apart a 4440 powershift to rebuild planetary pack. Are there any common leak points in the rockshaft housing that should be taken care of since it's off the tractor?

Stupid question, but since I don't know much I figure it won't hurt to ask. Let's use 3rd gear as an example. C2 and C3 is engaged. Are both clutch packs turning the same shaft? Since C3 is low on psi and slipping, does that mean C2 is also slipping?

Follow up from my thread about low C3 pressure from last week. Jd finally got my gaskets and I got the 4440 back together. When the oil is cold I can get c3 pressure to jump around. It may be 50psi, then if I sit there and hold the clutch in (I know it's really the inching pedal) the pressure...

8 speed Powershift is this true?

I been involved in many 4440 PS transmission repairs. I set up many new 4440's in the late 70's and early 80's. I always said the 4440 was more tractor than it had transmission when it was a PS because they were prone to slip under load and during shifting. You saying it does not slip in 7th...

8 speed Powershift is this true?

This definitely makes sense. It's not something I wanted to hear, I was really hoping I wouldn't have to split, remove cab, ect. I will search for old SIB's and see what I can find. Thank you for all your time and help, it is greatly appreciated. I found an old thread that you posted in...

8 speed Powershift is this true?

I never thought of that, you're right. There is an early and later housing. I have the early housing, the test port is before the shift valve. The test port is just an inch away from the left accumulator. So that means be have low pressure before the shift valve? Could there be something...

8 speed Powershift is this true?

Thank you for your response. I understand the system a little more clear now. When I check lubed pressure, I set the rpms so I had 10psi. Which was right around 1100 rpms. I shifted through every gear. Like you said, the pressure went down then came back up to within 2-3psi of the original...

8 speed Powershift is this true?

You're full of good news. :( I did C1 C2 and pto couple years ago, so at least they're good. Where does the lube pressure come from? I was told it's the left over oil from the what ever element is engaged. C1 C2 ect. So if you have a leak in C3, you would have very low or no lube...

8 speed Powershift is this true?

I don't know all that much about the PS. My problem is C3 pressure is low. System pressure is good. Lube pressure is good. I was told, if lube pressure is good while the C3 element is engaged, there is no leaks in the C3 pack. So that rules out shaft seals, clutch drum piston seals, C3 oil line...
