    That looks like a fairly legible casting number to me. A piece of paper and a pencil to make a rubbing should verify. Looks like 8041 or 1708 depending on the direction. If you’re not concerned with keeping the patina, a piece of sandpaper will just clean up the tops of the numbers.

    Your tractor originally came with straight 30 wt in it. Why not use what it was designed for.

    You can get a heated fan at most truck stops (probably Amazon too) that plugs into a power outlet. Many of them can be bolted to something, so you could mount it where you want it.

    I wasn’t able to get on here last night. Red Power Magazine forums have been acting weird for several days now. I go to that tab and get a message “ server error “ then get redirected to the main page, but, I then go to the menu and get to the forums, no problem.

    If it were mine, and I agree that it’s not, I would give it a good deep cleaning and buff out. Good coat of carnuba wax and step back and see what you have. 1 day spent cleaning versus weeks of paint prep. I’m too lazy for that.

    Farmall 140 running rough - why?

    You mentioned fine black particles, like sand. That says to me that you may have an old fuel line that is starting to break down inside. If you replace it, make sure to use “green line “ that is designed for use with ethanol fuels.
