    861 oil bath air cleaner

I have the 861 diesel with the square box oil bath cleaner. I removed the bottom pan and found no oil in the tray. My question is in replacing the filter element how far down in the box does the mesh screen come, down to just above the oil tray? I have a metal square screen at the top then...

    861 diesel starting problem

After looking closer at the wires I've decided to replace it all. They checked out OK but the insulation on the starter wire is pretty bad. I'll be replacing both leads off the battery, ground and lead to solenoid, and the lead to the starter Should they all be the same gauge and if so what...

    861 diesel starting problem

Thank you so much for all the direction and information. I've owned this old tractor for about 15 years. It's a real peach, just a work horse. It has it's other issues, leaks oil, I have to bleed air occasionally out of the pump to get the 3 point to work, but it will run forever on a tank of...

    861 diesel starting problem

Nothing when starter is disconnected. I have the battery back in with both terminals connected. No spark with the two wires connected.

    861 diesel starting problem

Not sure what your asking, help me out. I had the two cables off the solenoid connected together. Battery connected minus the negative battery cable for test. Do you want to disconnect wire at starter and check?

    861 diesel starting problem

Well........I cleaned up all the connections, hooked wires together. I could hardly touch the ground to the battery as it arched/sparked, no way could it be attached. It looks to have even melted a corner of the battery post. I assume the problem sits with the starter? Checked battery to...

    861 diesel starting problem

So just to make sure I have it right. I remove and attach the two blue marked wires (bolt together). The one on the left is attached to the starter and the one on the right will be attached to + on the battery. I will remove the - ground before attaching and once together touch my ground to...

    861 diesel starting problem

While waiting for the correct solenoid to arrive, should I need to replace the starter is there a specific starter for the 821 diesel that's different? It got hot as did the ground wire, couldn't even touch the ground wire from battery to block.

    861 diesel starting problem

The relay I was sold is listed for Ford tractor series 2000-5000. Appears to be the same as the one that was on the tractor, could there be a difference to cause a problem?

    861 diesel starting problem

Have an old Ford diesel, I believe it's the 861. Recently when starting I would have to push the start button several times, clicking, before it would start. The other day it wouldn't start at all and I could see one of the wires on the relay was heating up. I figured it needed to be...

    tractor towing safety

I probably will just use the swing bar that's already attached, probably a lot safer. It is very low but I'm sure it's for a reason, lower center for weight distribution.

    tractor towing safety

I do have the swinging drawbar (atttached to bottom of rear diff). It would be nice to have the capability to raise and lower for attachment but not at the cost of safety.

    tractor towing safety

I've only had my 861 for a couple years. I have been using a 2" ball attached to the front of the tractor to move my wood hauler around. I've seen some 3 point tow bars online and have been considering one to attach to the rear 3 point for towing the trailer around. Are these safe to use...

    861 Clutch pedal rod adjustment

This message is a reply to an archived post by old on January 09, 2013 at 18:51:33. The original subject was "Re: 861 Clutch pedal rod adjustment". I second blocking the clutch down when storing or not in use. I just, today, started my tractor up, 861, which had been sitting since late Jan...
