D17 power steering - governor driven pump

I'll check fluid flow before disassembly as advised and report back. We head out of town today and won't have time to do anything with this project for a few weeks. It has some leaks that need to be addressed and this will serve as motivation to deal with those as well. Haven't gotten to...

D17 power steering - governor driven pump

I went over and moved it to the barn yesterday afternoon. Turns right with some resistance and no power assist returning to center or left. From looking at service manual and parts diagram, I'm expecting to disassemble the gearbox to at least inspect and clean everything.

D17 power steering - governor driven pump

Evening all, having power steering woes with my D17 with single front wheel. I'll preface this with I've not experienced the issue and working on vague secondhand information and a service manual. Symptoms: Started with assist on left turns and loss of assist on right turns (including return to...

    D17 oil types - trans/final drive/etc.

Late follow up but ended up using the universal trans/hydro oil back in late summer 2024 for everything except engine oil and the power steering. Neglected power steering and its now a problem. Dropping that into a thread of its own.

    D17 Coolant in oil

Yep. Best I could manage is a wooden shed, once the engine is pulled. It is just getting it pulled that would be the main challenge.

    D17 Coolant in oil

Part of my issue on pulling the engine is that I'm working in a gravel driveway or barn. Neither of which have an anchor for a hoist to pull it. Yes, there are other methods but I'm not trying to build (or buy) a gantry set up.

    D17 Coolant in oil

Thanks, suppose it's time I invested in a cooling system presure tester. Have several vehicle projects it will be useful on coming up as well. Definitely want to pin it down before tearing anything apart. Don't want to back up and fire the parts cannon needlessly. Assuming it is the sleeves...

    D17 Coolant in oil

Gas D17. Changed the oil last weekend after discovering water contamination in the engine oil. First thought was condensation but found some coolant upon pulling the drain plug. Looking into the possible repairs to address and debating the direction to go with diagnosis and repair. I'm looking...

    TO35 tach cable routing?

I pulled the steering gear off to replace bearings, seals, etc. and am reinstalling everything but hit a snag. The only component I've got a question on is the tach cable routing. Can any of you shed some light on the routing of the tach cable in the vicinity of the air filter and battery tray...

    To35 stearing

The non-power steering models don't have any circulation of the oil, just splash lubrication. Below the battery, there is a pipe plug (likely with a slot cut through it for a screwdriver) where oil is added. Ours does not have a drain plug so required removal and disassembly for R&R.

    To35 stearing

Had issues with my FIL's doing the same, nearly have it reassembled with new bearings, seals, and straight 80w-90 oil in the gears. Currently cleaning the gas tank of rust before finishing assembly.

Water in the gear box freezing up?

    D17 oil types - trans/final drive/etc.

Thats interesting. Simply pouring each makes the gear lube appear much more viscous than 30wt. Took a a dive down a rabbit hole choosing equipment at random for reference, valvoline recommends their Super Tractor Universal Oil for use where they also recommend their 80w gear lube. Quite...

    D17 oil types - trans/final drive/etc.

The trans/hydraulic fluids I'm finding are all in the realm of 10w-30 equivalent. Seems light compared to an original 80EP oil. What would the signs of unhappy gearboxes be if I were to switch?
