2-N dirty oil,20 minutes max on rebuild.

You need to prime the oil pump. On the front of the engine block is a relief plug. Remove it and use a bottle of oil with a small hose and pour oil into the hole, enough to run down to the oil pump, probably about 4-8 oz. This should bring up your oil pressure. If it continues to not have oil...

    High RPM miss fixed.

Thanks Dell. I really appreciate all you guys and your knowledge on these tractors when I'm stumped.

    High RPM miss fixed.

I replaced the rotor and it fixed my high rpm miss/flutter. The tip was slightly loose and I didn't think it would hurt anything but I guess not. It now runs great and was able to mow last night. I love a good running N.

    8 N High rpm miss

I gapped the plugs at .025 but thats what my manual said. What spark plug gap do you recommend? I didn't think about fuel mixture. It ran ok before. I'll also try to adjust my carb. The condensor was about 1/2 inch longer than the original. The tab on my rotor being loose is a concern. I may...

    8 N High rpm miss

I am sorry to bother you guys again, but i'm stumped. I replaced my square front mount coil (tisco brand) with a 12 volt one, replace points, condensor with Echlin parts, timed my distrubutor, replaced plugs with AC c45l. It runs good at idle and about 1/4 up, doesn't miss under load at lower...

    Ignition voltage

Thanks alot. Will pick up a good set points and finish my tune up and be ready for mowing. Hopefully the flutter will go away afterwards. I really appreciate all the help you guys provide on this site. Terry

    OT, Finish mower

3rd gear is not a road gear, not in my tractor anyway, and my yard is very smooth. Been mowing in 3rd gear for 10 years now with good results. When I built our house, I used my 8N and plowed, disced, and dragged the dirt in all directions until it was as smooth as a babys butt before I sewed...

    Ignition voltage

I installed a 12 volt coil, square type front mount distributer, and it runs alot better but flutters. Store was out of points so I couldn't do it today. My factory resistor ohm'd at .4 ohms. The coil was Tisco brand, and it ohm'd 2.4. With everything hooked up, I ohmed the feed side of the...

    OT, Finish mower

Your right, don't know what I was thinking. I'm thinking of going 1 inch larger.

    49 8n front mount dist

If you do it a few times it can to be done. Its a simple job. It would be alot more difficult with a loader however.

    OT, Finish mower

I was thinking of speeding my finish mower up about 10-20% by installing a smaller pulley on the bottom of the mowers gear box. Any ideas of how much smaller the pulley should be for a slight speed increase? The mower is a quality built machine and I am sure it could withstand a small speed...

    Coil voltage

I know what you mean, smooth ride, and I can mow my 5 acres on about 3 to 3 1/2 gallons of fuel. I am thinking of changing a pulley on my finish mower to increase my blade tip speed a little because I like to mow in 3rd and it leaves some pieces of grass uncut at times. Thought about going to...

    Coil voltage

Old tanker, I do have weak spark. I purchased a 12 volt coil from Rural King during my lunch. It is a Tisco. I ohm tested at work. .3 ohms from the leads. coil tested 2.8. 2.5 after subracting my lead of .3. I am going to replace the coil with 12 volt type to get rid of all the extra connections...

    Coil voltage

I was hoping to get a NAPA Echlin coil, but is not available. Rural King has one. Do you guys think that is an ok coil? I really appreciate the advice. Terry

    Coil voltage

Thank you Bruce. Great information. I am getting ready to do a tune up and was going with the original square type 12 volt coil. It is currently the original 6 volt with 2nd resistor and was wanting to increase my spark with the 12 volt. The last time I used th tractor, I had to jump the last...
