    Motorcraft FL-1A is what I use and have used for decades in all my Fords including my 1988 Ford F150 when I had it....Walmart carries that filter. On the drain plug seal, I never had to change one and I didn't have any leakers.

    The Simpson brand analog multimeter was perfect for checking a capacitor.....not measuring its capacitance, but as you mentioned if it was good you would get some deflection on the meter as it was charging up to the voltage of the battery in the meter, with the amount of deflection dependent...

    Goose, my man......take the capacitor completely out of the circuit. Solve your problem then put a new/reliable one back in.....your points won't care as the absence is minuscule..........
