    Trivial SOS trivia

Here in the UK my Ford 5000 select o speed has those blocks on both sides too. It is interesting to see others thoughts on why they are there. Posting images on Facebook here in the UK bought no answers. I have always thought that they were part of the mould like a packing block that has become...

    Do your arms stay up?

Sounds like the oil is leaking past the piston seal in the lift seal. Inside the transmission there is a filter on the oil pick up, that could be blocked hence the lift is jerky as if the oil supply is restricted. As an aside I put a 3 furrow Ransomes plough on my 5000 at the weekend, it was the...

    Basidon

Yes Basildon is still assembling tractors ,T6 and T7 range are built there, transmissions still come from Antwerp in Belgium as they used too in the past, the only difference is at instead of being the centre of engine manufacture the engines now come from FPT in Italy. In 2014 Basildon...

    Ford super 6

That is a County tractor made in England by County of Fleet in Hampshire. This is one of the best Ford conversions as it was true all wheel drive, and given the location it would of been a popular tractor to pull trailer loads of pipe when gas and water lines where put in. Can't see from the...

Ford 5000 What a horrible machine

Here in England the Ford 5000 was for many years the best selling tractor from 1968 through to 1975. They were liked for their simplicity and ease of working on, but also for the abuse they would take and keep performing. Most of the older machines after racking high hours would be shipped...

    Ford 5000 4wd

Can you post pictures and serial number? If it begins with a B then it is a Basildon built skid probably converted by Roadless or County.

    Parts for Super Major

If you try AGRILINE here in the UK they are good to deal with, just watch tinwork as that can need jigging about to get a good fit. I have used them and they have been prompt to deliver. Contact by phone + 44 1527 579111 or email [email protected]. Hope this is okay.

    ford 5000

Start at the font axle, check for worn thrust bearings at the bottom of the axles, jack it up and check for play in the wheel bearings. Move the steering wheel and look for play in the linkage and the steering box itself. With the engine running check for blow up coming out of the dipstick, or...

    5000 needs rings

I would suggest that if the rod bearings are down then the main bearings would not be far behind. I would split at the bell housing to gain access to the flywheel and drop the crank out. Not a lot more in time but could save a heap of cash in the long run.

    Instrument Panel Ford 1000 series.

Thanks Ultradog, suddenly this is making sense. My tractor is an early 5000 built December 1965, first registered January 1966 and yes it does have those cut outs in the cowl as in your photo. When I came to re-install the instruments I bought a new gasket off a local dealer, now looking at...

    Instrument Panel Ford 1000 series.

Am I the only one who hates those spires nuts used to retain the instrument panel on a Ford 5000 but also any 1000 series tractor? Why could they not have provided tapped holes with a thread? Can't be cost. You can guess what happened , yes in reinstalling the panel it slipped and two wires...

Should I make it look like a Brit Job?

Those Fenders look like they are off a Leyland 344 / 384 to me, certainly never seen on any Ford product in England. Good luck will be great to see how it turns out.

5000 ford diesel 4.4 inch bore early block

Had exactly the same problem and posted my troubles here on the forum. Found that by using the correct gasket for the age of the tractor my pistons hit the fire rings at TDC. Used the latest thicker gasket with the larger bores to overcome this. Have had the engine running for 20 minutes and...

    hmmmm...there is unknown fords around

The tractors here in the UK tended to be smaller to suit our smaller farms and fields. Up to the early 1980"s 75hp was considered a large tractor. The major players were MF, Ford, David Brown, IH and the Leyland ( used to be known as Nuffield). The grey fergy had clam shell fenders as did the...
