Do your arms stay up?
Sounds like the oil is leaking past the piston seal in the lift seal. Inside the transmission there is a filter on the oil pick up, that could be blocked hence the lift is jerky as if the oil supply is restricted. Start at the font axle, check for worn thrust bearings at the bottom of the axles, jack it up and check for play in the wheel bearings. Move the steering wheel and look for play in the linkage and the steering box itself. With the engine running check for blow up coming out of the dipstick, or... -

5000 needs rings
I would suggest that if the rod bearings are down then the main bearings would not be far behind. I would split at the bell housing to gain access to the flywheel and drop the crank out. Not a lot more in time but could save a heap of cash in the long run. -

Am I the only one who hates those spires nuts used to retain the instrument panel on a Ford 5000 but also any 1000 series tractor? Why could they not have provided tapped holes with a thread? Can't be cost. You can guess what happened , yes in reinstalling the panel it slipped and two wires... -

5000 ford diesel 4.4 inch bore early block
Had exactly the same problem and posted my troubles here on the forum. Found that by using the correct gasket for the age of the tractor my pistons hit the fire rings at TDC. Used the latest thicker gasket with the larger bores to overcome this. Have had the engine running for 20 minutes and... -
