    1944 H

When Ken Updike at Carter & Gruenawald moved on a couple of years ago, YT and Steiner are both good places to get parts. Prices between those two are similar except Steiner has YT beat on the original looking coil switch by $20. Steiner carries gaskets that YT doesn't.

    How big an area...........

I road scouted yesterday between Brownsburg, IN and Clermont, IN which is 5 miles northwest of the Indianapolis Airport. So far this month 8.3 inches with afternoon storms in today's forecast. Early corn is 4 feet in height, soybeans around 12 inches. In wet spots the corn is yellow at 2...

    JD 105 combining corn

Great job! There were some 45s in a field near our Indy house on the westside but were scrapped around 2008 for that field to develop into houses. Combines are gone, field is in weeds and volunteer pine trees.

riding through the country in the fall

That JD 7720 combine was a good machine and is still very usable. I have hours in a 4420 and a 6620 Titan II. I would take one of those over these joystick and toggle switch models any day!

    Kansas Bean Harvest

I see you have a 7720. I use to run beans with a 6620 Titan II. By far my favorite combine to run. I don't care for these joystick machines these days.

    Bermuda Ken Update

Thanks to Farmallhal I had a very long phone chat with Ken. He is at Johnson Tractors, of Juda, Wisconsin, who bought most of the parts inventory from Carter & Gruenewald. He has some ambitious goals for the lettered series tractors. He also has the IH blueprints to recreate other parts if...

Hal thank you so much for the information. I gave Ken his nickname back in 1999 when I was rebuilding a 1951 H.

    brake adjustment

Rick on each pedal shaft, there is an adjustable yoke. Loosen up the tightening nut, unhook the yoke from the pedal shaft, then turn it in to make it shorter which should tighten up the band. It is trial and error. 2 beers required. :)
