    JD H Mowing?

I have used a #5 on an H. 2nd gear only for me. Hopefully you have hydraulic unit to lift it. However, the side draft is a big concern. You must have front weights or the tractor slides sideways to the right.

    vintage NH hay tools

When I was 14 in 1965, granddad bought a NH450 mower which we attached to the Ferguson TO35. We already had a NH402 crimper. Granddad never learned to operate this pair until I got a job off the farm a few years later. Mowed all the hay with this combined unit. Worked really well. Ran in 1st...

Thoughts on cutting hay with a horse mower

Granddad mowed with an International mower converted from horse drawn in the 1950s. He was strong enough to lift the cutterbar with a rope. So for the first few years I used a #1 John Deere from 1923. Put a block of wood above the tongue to tip the mower back and had someone ride the mower to...

    NH 273 Baler timing

Your needle yoke is bent bad, The vertical pipes should be parallel and the needle mounting brackets should be 90 degrees from pipe frame. It would be hard to straighten.

Up is implement position control (how far off the ground your 3 pt implement is carried). Down is draft control for plowing or tillage tools.

    NH 273 Flywheel

Off the top of my head I believe the flywheel is about 22" across and maybe an average of 2.5" thick. Steel is .283 lbs per cu. in. so this calculates to 268 pounds. Maybe a little less.

    Baling tractors

Grew up pulling a NH68 with Wisconsin engine using a Ferguson TO35. Later used the Ferguson TO35 to run a NH273 with PTO. Then a Massey Harris 50 on the NH273. Today, almost 60 years later, I use a Massey Ferguson 35 to run a John Deere 24T. All these tractors had live pto and 6 speed transmissions.
