    JD 4020 hydraulic issue

While we are on the subject of magnets, does anyone have a good method of getting the filings off of a magnet after you have collected them? This has always frustrated me and I've tried all kinds of methods with none working very well from wiping to washing to blasting with air to blasting...

    JD 4020 hydraulic issue

By "suck gun" I assume you mean an air nozzle that uses jet action to pick up the solvent out of a container and spray it onto what you want cleaned, then just let it run out the drain plug carrying the crud with it. I usually use mineral spirits or diesel for cleaning, but may get some solvent.

    JD 4020 hydraulic issue

ET, at this stage it really doesn't matter. I have too many filings in the system, and I just hope it is the brakes or something on the upstream side of the filter. When the fluid was settled and decanted there was also some brass along with the silver in the bottom of the bucket and 1 chunk...

    JD 4020 hydraulic issue

Thanks Tim. I am clearing the area for my new shop now and would like to wait until I get it built as it will be a lot easier in the new shop. Do you think the new filter will protect the pump and valves from the filings until I can get to it, or am I likely to damage something else by...

Can I do 1 side at a time or is it best to take both sides off at the same time?

    JD 4020 hydraulic issue

Tim, when I put the magnets in I was mostly just trying to find out what all was still in the system. Are the filings normal transmission gear and bearing wear as ET indicated or do you think it indicates brake problems. Is there anything else I can check, short of pulling the axle housings...

    JD 4020 hydraulic issue

I serviced the filter as I said earlier because I blew a line on the loader and lost a lot of fluid, so while the fluid level was already low, I decided to clean the screen and replace the filter. It had been 5 years although not too many hours. Because of the previous crud in the system it...

    JD 4020 hydraulic issue

Thanks ET. I think I will monitor it for a little while before I decide to bite the bullet and tear into it. I believe I will save my HY $$$ HYGard and let the old fluid settle decant and reuse until I can change the filter and check the screen and magnets a few more times in the next few...

    JD 4020 hydraulic issue

So in other words you have to tear it apart to the point you might as well replace them anyway before you can tell if it needs them. Brilliant.?

    JD 4020 hydraulic issue

Previous owner claimed to have replaced brakes when he had tractor apart for engine overhaul. He and I and others thought the crud before was just left over, and I changed the filters and cleaned the screen a couple of times until nothing was there and it appeared to be OK. Brakes appear to...

    JD 4020 hydraulic issue

Last time I changed the hydraulic fluid filter, and cleaned the screen was 5 years ago, but only a few hours since the tractor gets very little use. At that time the screen area was full of junk and someone recommended adding a magnet to the center of the screen. This time the screen area is...

Can you narrow up a NG without bolting fenders to ROPS?

I must be doing something wrong. Can someone help us out? In modern view, I only see a profile button and when I click it, Badgers profile shows no email listed, and when I click his PM button it says PM disabled. In classic view it shows NO EMAIL. Is my browser having problems or am...

ALRIGHT Thanks jdemeris, txJim, Bob another succesful story

Patrick, I don't know how the all original restoration police would feel about this, but I modified my coupling bolts to try to prevent them from coming loose. I use longer bolts that go all the way through the coupling, and after tightening them to the max torque, I add a locknut to the...

Can you narrow up a NG without bolting fenders to ROPS?

Badger I would love any help I can get in locating a pair, however your profile shows no email and your pm is turned off unless I am doing something wrong. Where are you located also if you don't mind me asking?

Can you narrow up a NG without bolting fenders to ROPS?

I just bought a ROPS and canopy for my 4020 and had to agree to give the seller my fender brackets to go back on his tractor since his fenders were on the ROPS. I would like to replace my brackets so I don't have to bolt my fenders to the ROPS. Any ideas where to find a couple of brackets...
