    The John Deere LA clutch shaft housing uses 1.5 pints of 90 weight gear oil. Don't forget to lube the fan bearing with 30 weight oil also !

    Picking rocks I found a 698 gram metal meteorite. A geology professor from River Falls said it looks accurate and should have it tested. I haven't yet but it's in my collection.

    How to spread sawdust?

    I have spread sawdust on my fields since 1988. when I got my first Woodmizer sawmill. I spread any time of year any species of wood. Just try to put down a light layer, like a 1/2 inch but that's challenging with a manure spreader.

    I don't know what is the difference between John Deere power steering oil and hydraulic oil but I have used hydraulic oil in my 1955 JD 70 for 48 years and never had a problem.

    No The plug should be in the flat area between that hole and the V belt. The plug is a slotted round head screw that you remove with a flat head screwdriver. Your fan bearing hub does look slightly different than mine which was made in April 1945

    While you're at it, add the oil to the clutch shaft housing 1 1/2 pint. This is to be done even if you don't have the belt pully attachment on it. Clean and refill the air cleaner cup with motor oil John Deere says to do this every day.. Also add motor oil to the fan bearing. The plug for that...

    1940's John Deere LA

    The transmission and differential are together. 3 1/2 pints 80w90 oil. The fill plug is next to your left heel when driving. Change final drive oil too 1 1/2 pints each side

    Fluids for 977H

    I have the same machine. I use 15w40 diesel engine oil in the engine. 80w90 in the axels. And universal trans/hydraulic fluid in every thing else. That's what Cat told me.

    What is this tool?

    It's a short straight blade screwdriver with hex head drive. With a knurled collar that spins and is threaded inside. It's an 1 1/4 long 1/2 diameter and the blade is 5/16 wide. No makers mark but is quality made.
