    Genny is repaired and back on.... Tractor is back in service... damage was at a minimun, as I did not run it after realized issue... 2 days/45 bucks.... he had to solder something on the arm. replace front bearing... Brushes in great shape... now puts out 7+ volts... Volt reg fine... evrything...

    ... I know some of the 9n and 8n generators had a 'high/low" adjustment.... this one does not... is there any credence to an adjustment in voltage regulator on a ford 640? just curious

    JMOR... he is going to fully tet genny after done... 2 brush system appeared to be fine, but hey, I am not a generator expert... I am sure I will know more "beyond" my reasoning, once he looks at it... lol

    .... just took my ford 600 Genny for rebuild... bearing bad in front plate.... knew it was going... SoundGuy had told me that 6.5 volts was low.... Genny started making bad noise.... shut down immediatley...as to avoid further damage... will cost about $45.00 from local guy to do.... will put...

    ... you did nothing with distributor? Sounds like a timing issue... is it a side mount or front mount?

    640 now charging...

    Ford 640 had to be jumped (as per Bruce 50 tips) 3 times yesterday on hogging job.... totally disconnected bat today... gave bat good charge... then pulled a "SouNdguy" on VR polarity... simply arced Bat and Field terminal, and she charges just fine now... Bat tester ran 6.2v with engine off...

    Yes... the 640 runs the hog with EASE compared to the N's.. almost effortlessly compared to what I am used to... but........ I loved my 9n.... I gonna get it back.... trust me... lol

    Hi Old!! Yes.. 134 cid overhead valve engine... live hyd.. not live pto... made 54-57.... Belt tested HP 31.1.... External engine mounted hyd pump... wanna get a service manual for this machine.....

    I traded my 39 9n and 52 8n for a near MINT 640... they both had issues that I didn't have the time, nor the finances to deal with right now... I run a business, and need to work NOW... 9n had sticking lift... starter lockup...tires shot... 8n all banged up... pump chatter... bad relief valve...

    I couldn't believe this.

    I had an 8n almost push me over a bank... Even though only 540 rpm, there is enough inertia to move tractor forward many many feet.... Especially dangerous trimming out fields, where a tree branch can knock you off the machine... I bounced off a rock real hard last year.. I now have a 640... and...
