    1929 D Oil Questions

Thanks for your replies. I didn't think I had an operator's manual, but I dug through a few boxes and there it was. Page 8 told me to fill the oil to the upper cock and explained the oil filter. Wish me luck getting this beast started!

    1929 D Oil Questions

I'm getting ready to attempt a start on my 29' D and want to check the oil. Someone told me to crack open the oil reservoir plug and drain off any accumulated condensation in the oil. I debated just changing the oil, but I want to make sure it runs before I dump a bunch of fresh oil in it. My...
  3. New Reproduction John Deere D Hood, 1924-1931

For sale New Reproduction John Deere D Hood, 1924-1931

This is a John Deere Unstyled Model D reproduction hood purchased new from Detwiler's Tractor Parts in 2014. It's never been installed and is flawless with no damage, dents, scratches, or repairs. It was primed and painted a few years ago and is very nice on the topside, but could use a minor...

    1929 D ignition timing

I installed a freshly rebuilt Splitdorf 246T magneto on my 29' D (90785) and timed it with the engine according to the manual. I put gas in the priming cups and cranked the engine several times trying to get it to pop and have had no luck. The spark has been fully retarded as I crank it. I'm...

    Splitdorf 246T Magneto

I'm looking for a magneto rebuilder who can remove and replace the broken points breaker bar on this magneto.......see attached photo. The entire points/arm/protractor assembly will have to be replaced and I've looked around extensively for a replacement - with no luck. I think my best bet is to...

    John Deere 4B Plow Identity

Thanks for your efforts. Others have also confirmed it's a 4B.

    John Deere 4B Plow Identity

Thanks for your reply Bob. I saw several two-bottom plows on Polk's website and it didn't matter their type, they were all described as "2B". So I can safely assume "2B" is just an acronym and not a model designation.

    John Deere 4B Plow Identity

I bought this plow (see attachments) freshly restored 13 years ago from an experienced JD restorer. It has a 4B decal on it and I've always believed it was a 4B plow.......and now I'm not so sure. A man recently pointed out it was a 2B plow and not a 4B because it only has two bottoms. He said...

    LA Compression

I meant to say there's a 23 psi difference between the cylinders.

    LA Compression

A compression test on my LA showed 65 psi on one cylinder and 12 on the other. I took the head off and had a guy lap and adjust the valves. The compression test is now showing 65/42. I don't know the condition of the rings and am pretty sure this engine hasn't run in at least 20 years...

    Yellow Paint

I bought a quart of Tisco JD 2 cylinder classic green paint, TP215QT. Is there a "classic" yellow paint as well, or has John Deere used just one color of yellow for all the agricultural tractors - past & present? Tisco's yellow paint is TP190QT. Is this correct for my '44 JD B? Thanks!

    B radiator re-assembly

Also, I noticed there's no lock washers in the new bolt kit. Why is that? I'm assuming nuts will back off over time without lock washers.....with all that vibration. I'm tempted to use some thread locker on them.

I'll try the Indian Head with the cork gaskets. Any advantage of using cork over paper or vice-versa?
