    Well pump popping breaker

Nothing worse than chasing gremlins headed into a holiday. I think MarkB is on to something regarding the voltage drop. I would have thought your installer measured amp draw as part of startup, and he maybe probably did. Inrush current has certainly been an issue on different projects in my...

    Variable speed motor question

I would tend to agree, except his original issue was excessive noise.

    Variable speed motor question

All I did was search for his part number. The mfgr shows a high speed version, which he has, and a medium speed, both available on Amazon.

    Finally in the Field

So it’s almost as if they found and addressed issues that came up after manufacture like, say, guys that want to bale long stems the size of a pencil that have laid on the ground and been rained on and dried out three or four times? Shame on them for not planning for baling hay that isn’t worth...

    Finally in the Field

I think I would probably paint the roller and sprinkle the sand on while the paint was wet, rather than try to mix the two and apply the mixture. You want to spend nothing and get everything, and in my experience that trick never works. You bought the baler you could afford in a hurry, and “act...

    Finally in the Field

I'm very sorry for the loss of your dog. They are the best creatures on the planet. As the husband of a vet, I do want to say that I have heard many times about difficult eathanasia, and it seems to me that it can often be associated with an animal that is grievously debilitated. I don't know...

    Sticker Shock

So the guy you wound up using made two trips to your house before he was done doing the job and still charged you $150 all in. He only lost about $200 doing your work.

Anybody Ever Try to Feed Goldenrod?

@farmersamm - How are the cows doing on this feed?

    Preliminary Workup

i think you are flirting with disaster here. Moving a fabricated wheeled assembly with a load suspended from it on sloped, uneven ground is a very tall order. Every force on it is going to try and fold it up. Even something as simple as a flat tire could be life or death.

    Auto darkining helmet.

And again, not darkening when the arc is struck is an aggravation, not a hazard. The lens stops UV in any state, and UV is what causes arc burn.

    Auto darkining helmet.

Sorry, I can't keep up with your ever-changing employment history. My mistake. I still say you're full of it- even clear safety glasses and, as it happens, autodark helmets that haven't darkened, block UV rays- and UV rays are what cause welder's flash. It is not, as some have said, due to the...

    Auto darkining helmet.

As always, I’m obliged to point out that this is nonsense. Getting flashed, if you did, working at an aluminum dock factory in the Ozarks probably has more to do with the fact that you weren’t wearing safety glasses than the hood you imagine you were wearing. I’ve had three or four of them, the...

Farmer death. broken chain, loader arms crushed

Fair enough. What I should have said was that grade 70 chains are not suitable for lifting, and that you can buy straps and shackles that will serve that kind of purpose a lot more reasonably than you can buy a four way lifting chain assembly, and gain a lot of flexibility of application in the...

Farmer death. broken chain, loader arms crushed

With due respect, chains are for holding things down, not lifting things up, and making the angle of the chain to the load that flat substantially derates its capacity. Four 12’ or 16’ lifting straps and eight shackles in a five gallon bucket will handle 99% of your lifting equipment needs and...

    Ball joint rubbing tire

You can carry on however you like, but if there’s any gap at all between the hub and the ID of the wheel when everything is tight, that intersection isn’t taking any weight. Those wheel studs or lug bolts aren’t tapered like a Morse taper, from end to end. They have a bevel on one end, which...
