    I think I got through your "jibberish"! Thanks for the tip---I didn't realize I could pull the distributor in lieu of getting the radiator out of the way to have a look at the points.

    It takes me about 25-30 tries to start my 9N. This is in warm weather when the tractor is cold. When it finally starts it runs fine. I"ve tried choking it & giving it shots of ether. Nothing helps. What"s wrong?

    Cat D8 need date from serial number and help selling

    Could you tell me what years the D8H Caterpillars were made. I"m going to look at one to plow snow. My TD-14"s are a bit light in some plowing situations so am looking to upgrade the weight. I"ll get the serial number when I get the chance but for now am just researching general info. Thanks!

    I hope that animated picture has been included in "hydraulic lifts for dummies". Pretty neat! I drained the "honey" out & pulled the right side inspection plate. The valve was in the "up" position. I moved the hand lever down & up a few times. The valve broke loose on about the third cycle...

    It looks to me like the spring you're talking about aids in raising the arms. If that's the case, mine is O.K. because there's no problem in raising the drawbar. I don't want to remove the top cover if it is unnecessary.

    Good point! I assume that shot is from the bottom. What is the spring's purpose, to help the valve raise the drawbar or lower it? When I first noticed that the drawbar would not go down, I ran the lever up & down several times and all of a sudden the drawbar went down. After raising it back...
