Hydraulic Lift

My 9N drawbar raises regardless of the handle position. When it gets all the way up it tries to keep going as the engine rpm decreases. The dipstick shows a dark yellow milky looking substance like it probably is the original oil. I assume a valve is sticking. Is changing the oil a good first step in solving the problem?

Vic......would it surprize you to learn yer hydro-tranny oil is clear honey colored??? When water gitts into the tranny oil it turns milky. Yep, changing hydro-tranny oil is a good place to start. Drain the square diffy plug FIRST as it peeeees with some accuracy; then the 3-in tranny plug; and finally the 3-in flatplate pump plug (NOT the corner hydro-pressure port) 3-in fill'em-up is by tranny shifter. 5-gals of 90wt gear oil. GL-1 is close 'proximatshun'. Poor SLOOOOoooowly as it drains past the tranny gears into the hydro-pump chamber. ......HTH, Dell

The control valve is either stuck or has become disconnected from the control arms that reach from the top housing to the bottom pump.

Acess can be had by removing the right side inspection plate. It will be necessary to remove both inspection plates to re attach the control valve.

Drain the dirty oil and then you will be able to see the control valve and manually move it to unstick it or to reconnect the control valve T thingy that the arms attach to that is attached to the control valve.

Clean it out and refill with new oil.

Dang, JMOR, there is just something that looks backwards to me about that pic.

Let's try this... LOL

I know... I know...

Ya got me? Is it a mirror? Which side looking from? Or just a flipped picture?

Yep, I just flipped the pic horizontally....

It didn't make my head hurt as bad that way.

I do think your pic before I flipped it was looking in the PTO lever side.

I have been wrong before though.

I have no idea when I went to bed last night.....

Thanks, guys but you've got me confused with that picture orientation. Am I going to have to turn the tractor upside down (or inside out) to make the picture useful?

Good point! I assume that shot is from the bottom. What is the spring's purpose, to help the valve raise the drawbar or lower it? When I first noticed that the drawbar would not go down, I ran the lever up & down several times and all of a sudden the drawbar went down. After raising it back up I could never get it to go down again. From this observation, I assume that the valve is stuck and not disconnected.

The pic is the bottom of the top lift cover.

It looks to me like the spring you're talking about aids in raising the arms. If that's the case, mine is O.K. because there's no problem in raising the drawbar. I don't want to remove the top cover if it is unnecessary.

I think the spring is reachable, and checkable from the inspection hole.

I hope that animated picture has been included in "hydraulic lifts for dummies". Pretty neat! I drained the "honey" out & pulled the right side inspection plate. The valve was in the "up" position. I moved the hand lever down & up a few times. The valve broke loose on about the third cycle. I put the cover back on, added new oil and everything is fine. Thanks for the help!
