Big tool, small part

Then it's in the cap. Is the cap original or aftermarket? In any case do the suggested test by running til it stalls, loosen the cap and try to re-start. Definitely replace the fuel filter. If the lines are old rubber, replace them. Make sure all runs are downhill, and ideally the filter... -

Zenith knock off?
I just put one on my Ford 3000, and did a week's worth of work with a 6" chipper on the PTO. Absolutely no problems. The only thing I had to do to mount it was to move the gas inlet fitting on the carb to side (it was on the front, toward the distri butor). I just had to unscrew a plug and swap... -

If it has been about 16 years since the filter was new, I'd say definitely time to replace it. Also the rubber lines that were added. . Also make sure that the filter was installed in the correct orientation. Generally the fuel should flow around the outside of the paper element, through the... -

Apologies again for my confusing the issue with 3000 fuel system. I envy you your gravity feed, actually! But the filter screen(s) and sediment issues will still apply if there's a screen either in the tank's fuel shutoff valve, or sediment bowl (if there is one). and of course sediment in... -

Okay I'm going to come at this from the maybe wrongheaded perspective of owning a Ford 3000, not a 4000, but which I assume is similar enough, and have had the same symptoms, gone now. Been there throwing parts at the problem: new coil, new dist parts and cap, new carb (Zenith clone type)... -

Thanks wore out! I made up some temporary seals out of 5/16" fuel hose today per Shaun Wallace's suggestion earlier in this thread....just to get the tractor going. Mounted the new carb (I had to switch around the fuel fitting from the rear of the carb to the side) and made up a new paper... -

Thanks sotxbill. When I took the old carb off the line was plugged with chunks of rubber from the grommets deteriorating, so I'd like to avoid putting those old ones back on if I can. -

Thanks wore out. There aren't any injection pump repair shops in my rural neck of the woods, but I'll check the local NAPA and O'Reilly's in case they can find something similar. Checking on Ebay and Amazon for injection pump fuel line seals/grommets/olives yields lots of them for 5/16" lines...
