    I like those long nosed 560's too. Would buy another for the right price at the right time. Problem is getting more invested in one than it's worth. Rubber alone could kill the deal.

    My first tractor was a 560 gas. I was 24 yrs old back in 1978. I paid $1500, it didn't run, and was told it needed to be rebuilt. When I pulled the head, it only had 4 pistons in it. The seller didn't lie.

    Should I use weighted/detergent oils?

    buickandeere is right on. Most sludge is caused from an engine not reaching operating temperature which then develops moisture in the oil eventually turning to sludge.

    Some good news from CaseIH....

    I don't like the way that sounds. "Working on an enhancement showing retired parts." What, a list of parts that are NLA? How is that supposed to get us back to the parts list and illustration? Put the darn p/n back in the electronic parts catalog and flag it NLA if they must.

    My story....I've had my Grandad's M since the early 80's. Never had a problem with the carb. Out of curiosity a year or so ago, I checked out the p/n on the carb. It's off a 350!

    140w gear oil?

    Are you using it for a tractor transmission? I filled my Farmall M with straight 140 gear oil a few years ago. It seemed to turn a milky color quickly which it probably didn't have the moisture shedding qualities of an automotive oil. Drained it and installed 85W-140 from TSC. Something on...

    Onan Engine

    Been down this road. The secret is to use a good fuel filter. Those cheapies don't have the filtering capability. I now only use OEM filters which I'm thinking are like 60-70 micron.

    Diesel engine oil ruining a gasoline engine

    Hard to believe. My Harley calls for 20W-50. If on the rode and need oil with no 20W-50 to be found, manual specifies to use 15W-40 diesel oil.

    I put a Swartz on my 1941 M 20 years ago. One of the best upgrades one can make to bring the tractor into the 21st century.

    1964 Farmall 560 running poorly

    Sounds like you're talking about the air screw on the throttle body.....the one with the spring. The lower screw on the bowl is the main jet screw that regulates fuel.

    IH site

    I contacted CaseIH as well and received a favorable response. They are reconsidering adding the NLA part numbers back into the website parts catalogs. I let them know nicely that this was a disservice to their long term JICase and IH customers.
