    8n tracters

From oldfordtractors.com: 1950 Serial number 8N245637 - 8N343592 This was a big year for changes to the 8N. At serial number 247571 the engine oil pump was redesigned to use longer gears to provide more volume. At serial number 252845 the one piece shifter handle with the small forged knob was...

Full Wave Bridge rectifier conversion pictures

Are you not aware that only 1 of the 4 diodes in a bridge rectifier package is being used? A single diode is all you need to prevent the battery from discharging back through the generator due to a bad cut out relay.

    ot mystery wire....photo

Connect the positive lead from a voltmeter (on a scale higher than the battery voltage) to the "mystery" wire. Connect the negative lead from the voltmeter to a known ground (battery terminal for example). Turn on the ignition; try the dimmer switch, lights, turn signals, radio, heater, etc...

    Just some nice images

Nice pictures...B+W often beats color in setting the mood. Just for grins, I edited one of your pictures for an older look. Regards, wings

41 9N front mount Six volt not charging

What the original poster meant by "11 volts" is 11 amps. It's no wonder no one knows what anyone means; the misspellings of simple words, run-on sentences, grossly incorrect grammar, incorrect terminology, local colloquialisms (look it up), and much more. There is a lot of knowledge on...

    voltage/amp tester

As already mentioned, for tractor related use, any analog meter is fine. Most low-cost meters are capable of measuring 10 amps, but double-check to make sure. If you need to measure more current, and especially for any length of time, you'd need larger wires than most meters have anyway. A...

    Engine Block

My 8n, which has no serial number, has the cast "mounting bosses"; has the oil filler tube both shortened and moved towards the rear; but has a front mount distributor and the generator on the RH side. The block's cast ID is 8N-C and is cast vertically. My research found that the stamping...

    OT lights on!!!

Sorry to be the dissenter, but I hate the auto headlights. There is nothing more annoying, other than tailgaters, than headlights on during the day. We older drivers can't adjust to the glare/brightness as we did when we were younger. It's bad enough at night with those blueish lights...

For BritchefLee...plus carb. shack closure info.

The B word (benign) is always much better than that C word! Glad it worked out that way but will keep you both in my prayers. wings

Old Iron (the best camera is the one you have with you)

There's a cat that hangs around the airport where my plane is that I've named "Dipstick". The cat is pure white except for the tail which is completely black! Your picture is excellent - a piece of Americana at its finest. It belongs on a calendar. Contrary to what a previous poster...

Ten Years and Two Thousand Posts...

Great story! It's nice to see your hard work come to fruition, even though it took longer than you probably had first planned. Hopefully some day my blue 8N will also become red. Regards, wings

    Marvel Mystery oil observation...

It's the ethanol in today's gasoline which has reduced the length of time you can let it sit (not "set"). It's possible that the MMO issues have to do with its reaction with ethanol, but that's just a guess. I do know that many of the old time pilots at my airport have used MMO in their...
