    TO-30 steering wheel removal

This steering wheel bearing project has been on the back burner for a few weeks. During that time the bearing has been enjoying a soak in penetration oil. The lower or second jam nut has been removed, now the inner race seems to be stuck. I assume it is not threaded onto the steering shaft...

    TO-30 steering wheel removal

Two weeks have passed since the last post, during this interlude the steering shaft marinated in some penetrating oil while durong this time I have been trying to finish up a dozen little details and install the door glass and related felts on the IH truck project. That stuff kicked my rear...

    TO-30 steering wheel removal

Those angles are cut from 2x2 by 3' length of angle iron. During the first attempt to pull the wheel off, those angles deformed or opened up and slid off the spokes. Back to the drawing board. I welded on an "L" shaped lip made from 1" x 1/8" flat stock to the angles to cup the spokes which...

    TO-30 steering wheel removal

The wheel's black composite also comes off on one's hands, and the puller has deformed all three spokes. I'll order up a new wheel, see how its made, and probably cut off the old one if the soak fails. I'll have to beef up the puller prototype.

    Tire frustration on a TO-30

A few weeks ago I add some air to one of the back tires, and both front tires. The other day I went to move the old girl, and the right front was flat. Must have been a bad reaction to fresh spring air. LOL After reinflating it, it seemed to be leaking air out of the schrader valve. I dug...

    TO-30 steering wheel removal

The steering wheel is still stuck to the steering shaft despite being encouraged with 2 lb brass hammer, and a home made three jaw puller. All that happened was the two inch angle iron bent or in other words 90* turned into 130* on one of the legs and the other two opened up as well. More...

    TO-30 steering wheel removal

Jim I can do better, I have been chronicling the project on Binder Planet, all things IHC. My post: "A 1200B's resurrection". https://www.binderplanet.com/forums/index.php?threads/a-1200-b-pickups-resurrection.154148/ I think I have a solution for pulling the steering wheel. I'm going to add...

    TO-30 steering wheel removal

I haven't been on this site for a number of years due to an IH 1200 B pickup truck restoration sucking up all my attention. However the truck project will be finished in week once the glass is installed. It is registered and insured now. Tractor has been outside for the last 9 years, this...

    TO30

I dug out my Ferguson TO-30 Owner's Manual, turned to page 30, Spark Plugs. Two brands are listed with three heat ranges: Champion; standard heat range 8 Com.; Hot C-7; cold 6M. AC; Standard heat range 86 Com; Hot 87Com.; Cold 85 Com. These are part numbers from the early 1950's and I...

    Update from Starter solenod

This is why I have the old starter rebuilt by a local automotive electrical parts re-builder. Same goes for generators and alternators on any antique cars or tractors. That old stuff from the USA, or in England if made by Locus was better built, and designed to be rebuilt without any special...

TO-20 gas tank and repair questions?

My TO-30 tank's tank's baffle was busted loose and sliding around around. I manhandled the tank shaking and rotating it until the baffle ended in the correct upright position against the far end of the tank. I gave the tank a few genital drops like one does to set an ax handle tight, and it...

    Starter Solenoid

My TO30 had been converted to use a starter motor solenoid when I got it. That unit failed and needed replacing. The one that previous owner used was from a late 40's early 50's 6 volt Ford car or light truck, and they ares still readily available for under 20 bucks. Standard motor products...

    TE 20 Charging issue

The generator has to be polarized for it to charge. The regulator has to have a good ground with no voltage drop (make sure all connections are clean between the battery, regulator and generator) See: When and how to polarize a generator.

    starter hanging up/bendix

Lube the shaft that the Bendix gear slides on, and apply a small amount of wheel bearing grease to the ring gear. Sometimes the Bendix gear will stick in a rusty ring gear from lac of use. On the other hand you may discover the Bendix Drive drive to be real sloppy, and it is binding once...

My latest TO30 project. Picture and question

Make sure the electrical connections are clean including the ground side of the circuit. Check the voltage at the primary side of the coil with key on, plugs removed, while cranking engine over. Pull off distributor cap and check voltage at the points. Does you tractor still use the...
