starter hanging up/bendix

Bendix has been hanging up when starting tractor.
any thoughts

Lube the shaft that the Bendix gear slides on, and apply a small amount of wheel bearing grease to the ring gear. Sometimes the Bendix gear will stick in a rusty ring gear from lac of use.

On the other hand you may discover the Bendix Drive drive to be real sloppy, and it is binding once in-gauged with the ring gear.

Replaced the bendix a while back/2 yrs. as you say don't run the tractor that much. will give it a try.
