    International TD-8C oil leak.

Problem solved. At some point in the last 40+ years some mechanical mastermind thought it would be a good idea to braze a custom "splash shield" inside the valve cover under the filler neck/vent. This shield was basically cup shaped and held oil until it overflowed out the vent tube. I removed...

    International TD-8C oil leak.

I picked up a TD-8C power-shift with ~2000 hours on it last year for a song as it would slowly stop pushing at around 5 mins run time. The main issue was a difficult find but easy fix. The trans pump had housing damage and it was sucking air frothing the trans fluid. New pump and no more issues...

    840 carb question

I'm guessing, to get the right rebuild kit I would need to know exactly what carb I have? Where do I find the numbers on it? While it's on the tractor all I can see is the MS marks in the casting. Is the part number on the other side? Also are the places posted earlier still the best places to...

    840 carb question

The old MS carb on my 840 (172 engine) has been rebuilt one too many times and it won't hold a tune anymore. I've been looking around trying to find a new one and every place I see only sells a Zenith carb for it. Are these really better as they claim? Secondly; can one of you fine gentlemen...

    Junk?

You say it's on an 850? I'm new to these old fords but isn't that casting from a 600? NCA vs. NDA? ~Tyler

Converting from standard ignition to Electronic

I can repair either. It just doesn't bother me to set points and for the $150 for EI I can keep a spare distributor. Although I will admit I did speak without thinking as both my 840 and my 8n are side distributor. If I had a front distributor I would seriously consider EI. ~Tyler

Converting from standard ignition to Electronic

It wouldn't be terribly difficult. I once designed and fabricated a custom fuel injection system for my uncles cobra replica. He wanted the look of the dual high rise tunnel ram with two 4bbl carbs but the reliability of electronic injection. I gutted a couple of old holleys and used them as the...

Converting from standard ignition to Electronic

I'm a young'n (30). I grew up around electronics. I am an electrical engineer. I build cars from the ground up and prefer fuel injection over carbs. I make my own wiring harnesses. I program my own ECU's. In short I love electronics. I really don't understand why people convert to electronic...

    640 with a 172??

Well here she is! I found a pic on my phone that I took the day I brought her home. I've already changed the cap, rotor, plugs and wires just to get rid of the red over-spray on them also did points and condenser while I was in there. The rest of the tractor was actually painted pretty...

    640 with a 172??

The rears are filled with cacl I'll probably change that to antifreeze when it comes time for new tires. I definitely need to find some front weights and fill the front tires though. I just put an ORC on it today before shredding. I couldn't run a bush hog on my property without one! I'll...

    640 with a 172??

All the castings are NDA so I guess it was an 840? Oddly I noticed that the tin is mounted on the lower of the two holes indicating the smaller gas tank and it being a 640... Anyhow I just got back from shredding our back pasture which had gotten pretty thick from being without a tractor for...

    640 with a 172??

Ok so it's a 1960-1964 industrial 172 engine. I'm ok with that. It's nice I actually have a little more HP than I thought I was buying, like losing a nickle but finding a dime :D That being said, what are the differences between this engine and the original other than displacement? Is it...

    640 with a 172??

Ok it gets stranger... I can not find a EAE or an EAF anywhere on the block. The only thing I can find is "CONN 6015J". The plate that is riveted on says "Ford industrial engine" but in the serial number box it has the exact same serial as the tractor. I called the old man I bought it from...

    640 with a 172??

Hello everyone, I just bought what I was told is a '56 Ford 640. I bought it from the original owner and it is in very very good condition. Everything on it functions flawlessly and it is all original right down to the 6v electrical system. At least the original owner told me that nothing has...
