What's That Noise? Farmall Super A

The plate on the clutch driveshaft coupler which everything bolts through has slop in it and all the holes are shined up. Also the rubber pieces in the joint are as hard as concrete. I think this is where the noise was coming from. As to the ring gear, it actually looks fine. I didn't take the greatest picture and I think the reflection/dirt is what is being seen. It has no chips or unusual wear. I think I'm either going to look for another complete transmission or part it out and keep everything for my other Super A, A, BN. I only paid $800 for the tractor with a set of cultivators. I did put tires on it, however the tires and other parts I did buy for it can be transferred to my other tractors. I originally bought this tractor for parts and it has lived a hard life. I was able to use it to cultivate for 5 years. Im going to think about it for awhile before I decide whether to fix it or part it out.

Unfortunately,I know folks in that position. They disassemble, replace, repair, reassemble and still have a strange noise. Could be some minor little thing out of tolerance. And as sad as it sounds, I know of a guy that tore his transmission and final drives all apart, still clunked!!🤬..... discovered it was a loose wheel weight....... Unlike this forum with a handful of people, there are Facebook groups with thousands of people who own, work on , restore and use Farmall tractors. Sure expands the pool of problems, issues fixes and flops. Y'all would be amazed at the number of young folks ,under 20, who are working on fixing up Grandpa's tractor.

Well here is my replacement for the Super A. For all the parts it would need I felt like it was worth buying something else. I have since parted out the Super A and have used many parts off it. Replacing it is a 1961 Farmall 140.
