Hooking up a gooseneck to a crew cab pickup

Always had a regular cab pickup .what’s the trick or tricks when you can’t see to hook up the ball in the bed?

We use a wood block with a hole in it and poke a cattle prod into it sticking straight up. Set it right in front of the ball and when it starts to get pushed over you know you're in the right place.

Mount a wide angle mirror to the front of the neck pointing down at the ball. Look in the rear view mirror to see the mirror on the neck.

I put a cheap back up camera in the bed that displays through the rear view mirror. Wired to the reverse lights. Before that I could lay down the back seat a just barely see the ball.

My truck has a sliding rear window so I use the bar in the middle of that to center up the trailers hitch. Using the rear view mirror I judge the distance from hitch to tool box. Usually pretty close on the first try.

With the new pickup, I just look at the bed camera.

Got a solar powered camera/magnet that I set on the tool box and uses its own wifi to connect to the iphone. Only problem is.. the left and right are reversed. I only charged it one time in 2 years due to the solar panel.

I like the mirror and block of wood trick. Never heard of such but as I get older I may not be able to see the ball anymore and that will be handy.

I use one of the extendable handle magnets. Put it in front of the ball, exactly in the middle of it, and when it starts to tip, I’m in the right spot.
