IG 444 hydraulic filter

tarted the 444 yesterday morning and it fired right up.

But. No hydraulics. 3pt or power steering

Let it run a bit but no improvement. Plenty of hydraulic oil in the reservoir

Pulled the suction line and the filter was very badly plugged. The filter separated from the suction tube. So need a new one.

Looking online all of the for that tractor show a tube with an offset. Mine is straight and 1” diameter.

Anyone know the correct part? And maybe a link?

Are you talking about the offset as show on the linked YT filter for that application? YT IH 444 Hydraulic filter It seems to be a replacement for the original filter assembly for the North American version of the 444 per the CNHI online parts catalog. The part number given there is 3069239R91 although arguably that is not the number shown by YT.

Not sure if you have used the CNHI manufacturer’s online parts catalog but it does show a straight pipe on the US version. CNHI US IH 444 Hydraulic diagram
To view the European version click the CNH and enter 444 in the box that says Model - Serial Number above it and then the Euro version should show up for selection. Then you have to choose the Hydraulics Functional Group and the proper diagram of the upper cover/rock shaft housing. I am looking at this on an iPhone, on a PC the switch may require less steps.
I wonder if you could use the offset one and cut the offset section off. Then get a longer proper suction hose that would extend up to the hard pipe.

Those links were helpful. Don’t understand why CaseIH would substitute something that doesn’t work. NO way to use the pipe with the curve in it. AND the offset style pipe is only 3/4" OD instead of 1" OD.

I was surprised how little room there was between the suction filter/tube and the line to the pump. The hose is 1”insidediameter by 5” long. Don’t need 5” as the gap couldn’t be more that 2-1/2ish. But I’ll keep it 5”

I’ll see if I can get the wix 51666 to work as the one link suggested.

One place close by that may have have a NOS. Unlikely but worth a call.

well apparently the straight tube type is impossible to find. found a used one for $125 but not sure if they are any good until they pull one.

A couple more questions:

1. does or can the 51666 Wix filter replace the screen in for the suction tube (looking at other posts linked by used red MN)? or is that the auxiliary hydraulic filter? (#2 question)
2. does anyone know the filter number for the Auxiliary hydraulic filter (between shifter and fuel tank) ?
3. there was a rubber tube (not hose as it is very soft and flexible see picture with hit partially hanging out of the hole) just laying in the bottom of the opening where the suction filter goes. Does anyone know what this is or where it is suppose to go? it is about 5-6" long maybe 1/2" ID?

I recently replaced the suction filter on my B434. The new one came from a company called Atlantic products out of Florida. I think they are importers of parts made in India where there were a lot of the B series tractors. They share many parts with the 404, 424 and 444 series tractors.

If you send me some measurements of your damaged filter, I can compare it with the old original one which I still have.

The rubber hose that came out of the reservoir might be from the filter assembly. It certainly doesn't belong in the reservoir.

Yes, the B434 filter has the dog leg. The replacement matched the OE part I removed.

The filter diameter is 1.7875". The length including the O ring abutment is 6.25". The abutment is 1.934" +/- diameter x 0.75" +/- long . The stop flange is 2.125" dia x 0.186" thick. The outlet pipe is a dogleg 7 " overall length x 0.817" OD and 0.682" ID.

In holding the screen up to the light, there is no hose inside the screen chamber.

finally got around to measuring the end. looks like the part with the o-ring and flange/abutment is the same size.

can you tell how the screen is attached to the tube/flange? my old one looks like it might have been glued or expoxyed together. I think the screen is steel or stainless and the flange/tube is aluminum (didn't think to put a magnet to it) .

are the new ones steel? the pictures look like they might be. wondered about taking a new one and cutting the dog leg tube down and welding a new 1" hose barb/fitting on the correct length (might be a trick) looks like there are come companies that make weld on hose barbs, probably for tanks and things. may not find the right length but could maybe get a longer hose to make up the difference. the current hose is 5" long but I don't think there is more than 1 to 1-1/2 inches between the tube ends. not ideal but it seems the originals, even used are hard to find.

here is one hose barb. looks like they will cut to length so could get it to match up if the ID of this fits over the dog leg tube.

this is a picture (not my tractor) of the "auxiliary hydraulic filter" for units with the remote valves. I think this is where the WIX 51666 or Napa 1666 filter goes. That filter is pretty close to the size of the suction screen filter. but paper of course and probably doesn't flow like the screen does.

The new part is definitely steel. It has been plated but I'm sure with what.

I can't recall how the brass filter screen is attached on the new one but the old one seems to be a press fit.

The rubber hose joining the suction filter and the tube to the pump is about 4 " long but the gap between the two metal parts is only about 3/4". I think it should be short to prevent the hose from collapsing.

Didn't get a chance to tinker with anything over the weekend other than the tube part of the suction is actually steel and not aluminum as I thought above.

I also found this picture on the redpower site. looks like they went from the doglegged 3/4" OD on the "available suction screens" noted above to the 1" line. I suspect that is why it has an extra hose clamp on it.



I'm guessing the original ones had the suction screen/filter expoxyed or glued into the flange/tube part somehow. Some black plastic like substance is on the screen and some is inside the flange. I have not been able to get that "glue" off as it is very hard.
