New to me Tractor

Thought I’d share a happy occurrence that is relevant to this forum. I only have space for utilities and brought an International into the family this weekend. Took a journey to grab it and drove back through snow and rain to get home. It is well cleaned up but needs mechanical attention to the hydraulic whine and poor running (rust chips in sediment bowl). I look forward to getting my hands dirty and solving the problems by following the steps I read on here while the necessary manuals are on the way.

Thanks all for posting help and general tractor talk for me to read and learn and in most cases smile
Hope a few pics show a bit of thanks. Nevermind the mess, it’s a work in progress I am sure most of you can appreciate

Nice haul. Don't know anything about this model but a whine in hydraulics usually means it's starving for oil, low level, plugged filter? Rust in tank, remove sediment bowl from tank, take a dog chain fastened to a stick and move it around the inside of the tank. Flush the tank out.

I LIKE IT! I'm not a red tractor guy per se but last fall I bought a barn find IH 460 utility. The big brother to the one you got. I've already gotten lots of enjoyment out of it just getting it up and running. looks like, judging from the photos, you missed out of a lot of fun. Nice paint though.

Pardon me if I'm a little too forward; but I'd like to address your defeatist attitude. ' I only have room for utilities" don't sell yourself short, they build new pole barns everyday.

Thank you! A 1960 340U that is an evolution of the 300/350/330Us that I think was IHs answer to the Fords and Olivers. Wanted a 430 as I think those Eagle Hitches are neat, maybe someday. Big fan of your avatar!
PO said he rebuilt pump and cleaned filter. Read the archives, found a bit about sucking air causing some whine, and there’s a leak around the system so I’ll go on the hunt soon.
Will try your method on the tank!

I think I read a post about your 460U acquisition, looked like a mighty fine machine!
The fun never ends with these as we all know, though I am a bit glad to not have to deal with the wire wheels and sanding and primer and spray paint this time around. I’m sure I’ll be into that TA someday!
Haha not too forward at all. Let myself think about just that today before remembering She who is in charge wants an addition with bedroom. It’s important to dream

Unless you already have the mating implements in your shed, steer clear of the older proprietary 3 point hitch alternatives like fast hitch, eagle hitch, snap coupler, etc. Generally proprietary implements are hard to find because few were produced, cost more to purchase than an equivalent 3 PH implement, and parts are either no longer available or very expensive. Ferguson's 3PH patent expired in the 1950s, by the mid 1960s nearly every tractor manufacturer offered 3 PH as their proprietary hitches died out.

rust in gas tanks is very common. The fix depends on how bad it is. Sometimes removal is needed, other times nearly all the rust can be siphoned out.

I have become a fan of inline filters. I stayed away from them for years thinking they were for fuel pump system. Now you can get see through plastic filters for ATVs that are for gravity systems. Cheap, easily changed, effective.
