That manual suggests the flywheel can stay on the crank when it is pulled from the case. Unwieldy, I'm sure and I see it's for a 10-20/15-30. What does it say about installing the flywheel? What service manual is that?

I sure would not be leaving flywheel on. 10-20 is the same engine u have. And if you remove the flywheel u will know how to install it. This is 1920’s and 30’s info.

I know I can't beat the flywheel back on so as not to harm the bearings and you have to get the key near perfectly aligned from the outset. Nebraska Kirk has described a custom puller that threads to the crank and allows the flywheel to just slide over it and then pull it back on.

Got the flywheel off and the crank out. Besides gathering parts and a replacement block, I am working out, with my buddy, how best to reinstall the flywheel. New bearings arrived just today. Crank is at the machine shop. The plate we made to pull the flywheel will saved for the next project.

Does the rear seal retainer come apart further than unbolting from the case? I mean, it appears the felt is sandwiched between 2 rings that knock out. I haven't tried and will wait until I get new parts in hand, but I am curious.

This morning was overcast and rainy but I drove to Shelbyville, got to meet Dwayne Hansford and spent a few minutes looking over his collection of F series tractors. He seems to have every option for every F series out there. Quite the collection.

Made major strides yesterday and this morning. Buddy made a flywheel installation tool. Heated the flywheel for an hour or more with a torpedo heater for just a little temp difference and it pulled on easy as can be. The key came out of alignment a bit but I tapped the crank throw and brought it back pretty easy. Went easier than I expected. One thing I did before putting the flywheel on was to fit the seal and retainer to the neck

separately then pull the flywheel on. I was able to run the retainer bolts in through the flywheel openings. I now know for sure the seal is undamaged and properly installed. And also this morning I ground the valves and head so that's ready to go back together.
