Is this a 8N10505B or 8N10505C regulator?

I have a 1942 Ford 9N that my dad replaced the original 9N generator many decades ago with a replacement 8N10000B three-terminal generator. Of course, that meant he had to install a correct 8N voltage regulator to go with it. That regulator is finally giving up the ghost and I need to replace it. My question is whether that regulator is a 8N10505B or 8N10505C version? I know that both those regulators are electrically the same but just have different mounting methods. I just need to know if my current one is a 8N10505B or 8N10505C version, so I can buy a right replacement one and mount it to the same bolt hole pattern on the existing plate. Three pictures attached.

Thanks for the help,
Eddie

Hi Eddie. I'm no expert with these charging systems, but looking at my parts catalog, it says that there was no 8N10505-B regulator. There was only the 8N10505-C for the later 8ns. There was a 9N10505-B, but that was a cut-out relay that was on your 9N originally. So I'm thinking the regulator you have must be the dash C.

Hi Jim, thanks for the reply. That's interesting. The nnalert website only offers two regulators for the Ns for sale: the 8N10505B and the 8N10505C, so it seems like it does (or did) exist, but I've also read that the new replacements really are all the same, and one just comes with an adapter plate. I also read there was something related to the rubber isolated mounting for some of these regulators, like you see on mine in the pictures, but that also doesn't make sense to me, because you can see the post by the far left terminal has a tab that connects the grounded back plate of the regulator to the metal of the bolt that goes into that hole, so it wouldn't be electrically isolated. So, I'm still not sure what I have and what I need.

Well, there you go. Mark found the dash B on this site. My parts book is not correct about that.
I think the rubber mounting might have been for vibration dampining rather than electrical isolation.

If one looks closely at the hex head screw in his first picture you see a ground strap under it. The rubber mounting is for vibration as you posted.

Thank you guys! I ordered a new regulator on Ebay today that looked the closest and said it replaces both 8N10505B and 8N10505C, so we'll see when it gets here. It said free returns, but hopefully I won't need it!

Good luck Eddie. I went through 3 regulators on my old NAA before I gave up and went to a one wire 12 volt alternator. However, I have a 6 volt positive ground alternator on my 2N. It works great.
