I definitely want to add a positive experience for the 12V side. We converted my dad's NAA in 1986. Poorly done Delco 63A 10Si alternator (car size pulley and belt, Chrysler resistor on "1" side, cobbled brackets...) conversion with original wiring. It was refurbished with new wiring in 2019 but same alternator with a 1-wire regulator, B sized pulley and belt, and new brackets. In 40 years it has never failed to start due to an electrical issue and has not broken the starter drive spring (starter has not been out since the late '70s). Not sure what else you could ask for in a conversion to be a success?
