Farmall B blue smoke

Hi,

Lately my Farmall BN has been blowing more and more blue smoke. It smokes moderately under idle, and when I hit the throttle the cloud is the size of a bus. It has burnt oil now and then for a decade, but this chronic level only started after I did an oil change last year using diesel engine oil (I forget what weight, but I opted for heavier given the age of the engine).

I did a compression test, and all 4 cylinders are in the 90+ PSI range, which from what I have read is decent for a nearly-100 year old tractor. I'm not sure what else could be the problem. Worn valve guides?

Any help would be appreciated!

If it ever ran hot, the oil rings will clops. Leaving good compression and suck oil.

How much do you use it? Maybe it needs a good long drive,for an hour or more?

While it is a gamble try mixing a quart with 5 gal of gas and run it. If the smoke is caused by sticking rings or valves that are carboned up and letting oil by. It can help and I have found worth the gamble since all you have to loose is a quart of ATF

Well it comes down to the fact that she is plum slap WORE OUT , EVERYWHERE . your valve guides are wore and oil is getting own them more then should , your sleeves probable look like a EGG out of round and your rings are wore and maybe stuck . and DIESEL oil is now doing what diesel oil does and it is tryen to clean things up . And it is not meant for OLD gas tractors . Now you are Killing Skeeters and starving the bat's of the supper time.

Rings , sleeves, pistons, sleeve orings,...under $400 delivered. Well worth it

Might want to add in a head gasket set and pan gasket.
While head is off maybe get it to a good machine shop for a valve job!

Head gasket set (Felpro) from Amazon $50. Easy enough to clean the head and lap the valves.

In my experience the lighter the oil weight, the easier it is for the oil rings to scrape it back down where it belongs. Give that a minute's thought. ;-) gm

If your going have the pan off , check your rod and main bearings with plastigage , and redo oil pump . You got it open now the time to do it.
