I have a galvanized steel tractor funnel that with ¼ turn locks into the tank opening. Not made today, so I use it carefully.

The lock-on galvanized tractor funnels are still made by a few companies. ....Behrens and Plews are two of them.

I bought one of those with the "teeth" on the taper, it will not lock into the opening and remain upright. My old one is nothing like that. it only has 2 lugs that fit into the gas cap square slots in the filler neck. The screen in it is so fine it filters out water droplets. I've owned and used it for perhaps 55 years.

My old one like that from the 70's actually has two sets of lugs to engage the tank opening.one pair are for a much larger opening in a tank.I have never once come across a tank they would fit into,but have been told there was a lot of military stuff made they would fit.

For the life of me I can't see how so many people have so many problems with gas cans.

I've got three of the newer ones with spouts like this and I don't have any trouble pouring gas from them. Little slower is all and many times, depending on what I'm pouring into, I simply take the spout off and pour into a funnel.

What's so hard?

The main thing with me is the government can take something as simple as pouring liquid out of a can and screw it up.
I don’t want to have to “position the can just right” for it to get air, I just want to tilt the can up and have gas run out.

I installed these on all my plastic (18) cans without a vent. My 3 Jerry Cans work fine. I also replaced the spouts that required down pressure on the spout to start the flow.

That's about how old mine is too. Thanks to cwtech I can buy a spare.

I have 15 to 20 gas cans of different ages
My go to gas can for everyday use has the push down spout like this.



You can get the spout into the tank fill hole with no spillage.
I also have a one gallon can with a spout like this that is the worse design I have ever seen. I just replace it with a spout off a different can when I need to use it.

Yes they are, Maybe not as good as yours but still very good quality!!

Check for battery powered ones. Around 40.00 and you don’t need to lift them on top of the tractor.

I agree 100%. I have one like the first one you posted and it works well for a lawn mower or something like that. I have some like the second one you showed and they get the spout thrown away and a replacement kit installed. It's not that I spill gas, but they empty so slow that I would rather have a regular spout with a vent.

I get my spouts from gasSpouts.com...old style with a vent piece. drill a hole and insert the vent that closes when not in use. My problem now is lifting 40#s of gas waist high and holding it over the tank on the ZTR. At 79 with bad shoulders, it's a chore. Who has a battery powered gas pump that actually works more than one filling that doesn't cost 250 bucks... The cheap Chinese ones deteriorate quickly and leak more than the pour.

Why don't you invest in a battery operated petroleum liquid pump. Amazon has them for "Two Bits" (in $ not cents). Real handy and now that I have one, actually 2, another rated for water based liquids, I have used them quite a bit.

Neighbor has a 2016 JD 4052 and buy their diesel by the 5 gallon can when they go to the farm once a week. Problem is, the fill port on the tractor is on top of the fender. To fill without a pumping system they have to either hold the 5 gallon can above their head or climb up on a step ladder...lugging the tank and balancing yourself when trying to pour .......Even if you had a pumping system and delivery hose with nozzle, unless you had an auto cut-off nozzle, you'd still have to climb up on the ladder to fill it......as dash gauges are slow to respond to actual fill levels and there is a question as to if the dash says full, just how full is the tank.......really poor planning on JD's part.

I don't know. I just asked the question and jumped on one of the first answers....for that money, we aren't talking about a 1" hose and 2 HP pump......I wanted the former and not the latter. Obviously if you want to move lots of product you will have to dig deeper in your pocket.

I have to put in a good word for the square 5-gallon utility jugs sold by Jegs. Practically indestructible. Not sold as fuel jugs (wink wink) but that’s what everyone uses them for.

My garage has a number of them in red and yellow.

Occasionally you’ll get one where the molding on the cap threads is a little rough and it’s harder than it should be to get the cap on or off but a file quickly fixes that.

I love those "race jugs". If my "old school" square plastic cans ever bite the dust, I will replace them with "race jugs". My old ones are 40+ years old now. I have one NICE round 5 gallon galvanized can I got from a man at church when I was helping him clean out his garage. I and sure my son will end up with that galvanized can along with all of my other stuff
