601/641 dual clutch

Post a photo of the stampings on the flat spot behind the starter.
On the clutch housing at the location below the battery as shown by the arrow. (the point of the arrow is a bit low on the photo) If the 641 came from that spot show the others stamped numbers below it. Post some photos of the whole tractor from both sides and maybe the back as well.
Sorry missed a greeting for you “welcome to YT!

Maybe mine has a 661 tranny and diff? that's good to know, Thanks!!

but they were not the 4 speed, correct that's where it gets weird
For comparison below are pictures of the normal 4-speed non-live setup taken from my Ford 840 but it should be similar on a 641. Also I've included a picture from the 601/801 operator's manual of the live PTO setup and operation. It looks like you have a four speed transmission in a 5-speed case with internal dual-clutch hardware - note pedal pivot location moved to the rear, clutch pedal appearance, and forward operating mechanism. My guess is that you have a prototype from Ford that eventually was sold off, note it was stamped 641 at the factory so unlikely this was someone's aftermarket tinkering.

Ford 601 Two Stage Clutch.jpg

Perhaps I don’t understand the mechanical parts that enable a 5 speed transmission to use a 2 stage clutch, but I see no way that a 4 speed transmission can act like this. Based on the Ford parts book, there is only one input spline on a 4 speed. So the shaft is either engaged or not. But with a 5 speed (whole different design), there are 2 different input splines (so 1 plate/stage of the clutch runs one, and the other plate runs the other).

Without that feature, I just do not see how a 2 stages clutch can effectively be used. Perhaps those that have worked a lot on these transmissions can tell us if the 2 inputs spline parts can be fitted into the input side of the 4 speed.

More pictures from back and both sides
The only numbers below are the serial number

Unfortunately it does not run at the moment so I can’t demonstrate to dual clutch but the guy I bought it from said that is how it works, he bought if from someone about 5-6 years ago and he is supposed to check with him to see what he has done to make the happen
When I find out I will repost here to let yawl know

My thinking is it has the have a transmission from say a 3000 series with live PTO for the double drive shaft set up needed for live PTO
4 speeds from the 2000/3000, 1965 and newer, are still single disk clutch/transmission PTO. The also have a different bellhousing bolt pattern than pre-'65 models.

I think the seller just want it to sound more useful/valuable than it is. Everything about it says 641/non-live PTO to me. I don't know of any way to put a double clutch and the matching double input shafts into a 4 speed transmission case. It would also need different gears to move power from the input shaft to the PTO output shaft.
Someone mentioned the pivot point of the clutch pedal being different than an 840. What you have is correct for a 641 (or 841).

To clarify.

Currently from your post (#30) it now sounds to me like you bought the tractor not running; so, everything you have said about how the clutch works is just repeating what the seller told you. If this is correct you should have told us that you bought it not running, in your first post. From your prior posts it sounded like you had run it, and the pictures look like it would be a running tractor.

If that is true until you have it running and can put an implement on the PTO and prove it is a two stage, it is a seller's story.

What is needed to get it running? That should be your first task and would end this speculation one way or the other.

I don’t think so I paid $500 for it

Yeah you're right funny how I've never seen that mentioned in the list of changes from the 600/800 series to the601/801 series. I agree the tractor is probably a regular 641 with single stage clutch.
