What do you think about this trailer, pros/cons

I do like a tilt bed. I have to use a hi lift jack
I have been emailing trailer outfits, I emailed Kaufman about the weight of this trailer and confirm the price that's when they told me they did not have dealers they sale factory direct.

I was looking at one like this I have used a buds to haul a tractor. What changed my mind is I read they don't work well hauling a diesel pickup. The pick up is nose heavy and will not tilt when loaded. One guy told me he could get it build with power tilt.

Equipment Tilt

I have a 12K 16' tilt deck. I like not having ramps that are a pia and just add weight.
I use a High Lift jack to tilt it. Then drive (or winch) the front tires onto the trailer and the jack falls out and up you go. There is a pin that holds the deck down when hauling. To drive off, pull the pin, back up and off you go.
No special apparatus to lift the front except the hi lift. You can see the jack if you look close in the photo.
Edit: My pal kenny built this one in the giant machine shop he worked at about 30 years ago. He had the whole trailer hot dipped galvanized when it was new. I bought it from him 15? Years ago. It has zero rust except for the fenders. Pretty good for up here in salt country.

I watched a video on youtube where a guy mounted a winch to this trailer he had counter balance issues. I could add rear weight that's not an issue. I sure thought it was power tilt : (. I got a pix of how the factory installs a winch plate I do not like giving up 2ft of deck on this trailer for a winch. When I load my Kubota with loader I need all the front deck to balance the load nice. I guess there is no perfict trailer. I'm also looking at this one and a pix of winch mount on the Kauffman.

Are you saying it was a manual tilt and the winch added too much weight up front?

The difference in a manual tilt vs a powered tilt is pretty big. You can get by with manual tilt but it can be a pain because you are relying on gravity and how the load is balanced. While most have a cylinder and a hold valve, you are still relying a lot on gravity.
Power tilt either goes up or down at the push of a button.

Yes go to 12:00

I went trailer shopping with a bud after lunch today he was looking for a 12ft utility trailer. We came home without a trailer. I have been trying to buy this 6-1/2 X 12 dump trailer from a neighbor we settled on a price. The battery does not charge when hooked to my truck I am going to look into that tomorrow. I am still going to replace my car trailer I will probably wait till after I get a knee replace Nov. 18th.

I assume it's a seven pin connector? Then the one pin on your truck which is 12V+ should provide charging for the trailer battery, correct? Why are so many trailer connections messed up? Neighbor just bought a nice used 25000 pound GVW tilt bed. 8 tires, pintle hitch. We had to change the connector on it. The wiring, which I think was original, was a rats nest! The cable going into the little brake/safety box was pulled way out such that you couldn't pull the cover away from the box! Getting excess cable shoved back into the box so that the cover could be removed solved a lot of the issue.

Does it have a separate battery for the brake breakaway switch? If so, it may be wired to charge that battery, not the hydraulic pump battery

"breakaway switch/battery" I looked while parked on my gravel drive I did not see a battery for the brakes so later on I will look under the trailer for it.

Why are so many trailer connections messed up?
I see it a lot.

Also, why are so many 6-to-12-volt conversions messed up? Same reasons for both, many either don't bother to follow the correct info available, or don't bother with finding/using the info. JMHO

Can you balance the load properly with th axles that far forward?
Same question... as the pics make it look too long in the rear?? Guess you could always back a tractor on to get it to go into "haul" position?? But you do need correct weight distribution with 10% more on the front to haul safely. While pic makes the rear look too long, the other picture seems to have fixed the view. And if you haul tricycles, you could simply get a small rhino ramp if you did not want to circle load the tractor... Lots of rub rails and pockets... to tie off to,, are really needed.

No separate dedicated breakaway battery, it had a circuit breaker under the dump bed it was open. When I jumped the breaker power was restored to the trailer plug in.

I have a crazy idea make a battery mount with a 2" trailer hitch and tote it to the trailer I am going to use.

I sold my car trailer, a few years ago sold my tow truck I have wanted a full tilt trailer for awhile. I don't like messing with ramps this will be for local use I have a Ram 250 and a ford Super duty to pull with both diesel.

I will be hauling cars, trucks and light tractors. This is a full tilt I have read equipment trailers (equipment tilt) that have the rear tilt bed are not friendly to diesel pick ups, pick ups are nose heavy they will not self tilt when loaded. Kaufman sales factory direct I am with end 60 miles of a manufacture, it looks like a nice savings on the price.

15kw full tilt
If the diesel pickup is nose-heavy drive it onto the trailer instead of backing on the trailer and stop before the front wheels leave the tilt-bed, lock the tilt and drive forward as much as you wish.

Would support jacks or cribbing be needed to support the rear of the trailer during loading? I have seen a trailer lift the back end of a pickup off the ground while trying to drive a heavy tractor onto a trailer. Both the trailer and the pickup started to roll away from the tractor.

This is a tilt trailer,so the tail is already on the ground.I do know what you are saying though,on straight trailers I was shown probably 50 years ago to always throw blocks under the tail of the trailers when loading. It was more to keep from dumping a big load on the rear tires and springs while loading, and to keep from stressing the rear section of the trailer until some weight gets to the front.I still do it,even when the trailer is plenty strong to handle it.Makes for a stable feel while loading too,the trailer isn't trying to dance a hula underneath you.
