Missing oil filter part critical for operation?

Hi: I have a 1944 9n with the original oil filter canister. I seem to be missing the part directly above the filter element canister. It's part # was 9N-9N6885. It looks like it is a sealing spacer of a sort. Is it necessary for today's OEM elements? Thanks....GGBB

GGBB again.....this is the part in question. It could be the new elements have the center gasket as part of the oil filter element and the outer gasket is a separate extra. Was there a metal center piece at one time to join the two gaskets? Hard to tell by the drawing.

No, the 2 gaskets should be seperate.
One like you stated is already on the element, while the other one is separate. That one seals the oil filter cap to the base. It should come in the new oil filter package though.
Number 4 is a separate gasket from number 2.
If you don't put number 4 in, oil will leak all over the engine.
Good luck!

Hello GGBB, welcome to YT! I hate to do this but I’m going to say PBIH maybe didn’t look real close at where the arrows from the numbers point in your diagram. Or maybe he meant to say in his last sentence “If you don’t put number 2 in, oil will leak all over the engine” You need gasket or seal rings 2 & 5 in your diagram to seal external oil leaks. I would say number 4 closest to the oil canister lid inside your red circle comes attached to the filter. As long as you have the spring to locate the filter properly the seal number 4 seals around the inner tube to assure oil filtration.
