    IH 574 gas

Where is the block drain for the coolant? Owners manual doesn't seem to helpful. This past summer we replaced water pump, the fan hub had slid back allowing fan pulley to rub. Made an awful racket and threw sparks. Low hour tractor (1200 hr) Probably the original pump. Water pump bypass seemed...

3010 load sensing shaft and retainers

I lost load sensing shaft retainer and shaft slid out losing oil. Before I could replace retainer I was mowing hay and shaft slid out. Special retainer bolts still in place. What do I need to do to keep retainer in place. Maybe a strap bolted to the wishbone to keep retainer in?

    3010 lp pistons

3010 lp needs new sleeves and pistons. All the kits I have found fit gas & lp tractors but they are recessed top piston which I believe to be 7.5 compression. The factory pistons are flat top and 9.1 compression. Could a really good welder make the recessed pistons flat top? Any ideas?

    4440 headgasket

I am having trouble with my 4440. It blew the head gasket a while ago and I tore it down last week. It got new shims for the cylinders and it was installed by a JD mechanic 2000 hours ago. I don't know why it blew the gasket now but I'll have to measure the cylinder heights. The gasket is...

4440 rear wheel bearing cracked the housing!

Took the 4440 out today and put it in front of the grain cart to move a load of wheat. When it was loaded and I got some weight on the tractor I hit the road and after a while I heard a squeaking sound for a second or two. Then when I braked to make a turn it sounded just like if you put a car...

How to drive a 15 speed power shift?

So, finally I am going to have a look at a JD 4450 mfwd with the 15 speed power shift. Question is how I test drive it? I know that I dont need to use the clutch when changing gears, even from forward to reverse in slow speed, but that is about the only thing I know about them. Do you have...

Thanking you for the help with turning the 4440 up :D Hope you can help me with this as well... Will be running a Hesston 4 * 4 baler and have found out that the 4440 have the power (seen a 4250 pulling a 4800) but it's a 2wd and a Hesston baler is heavy. So, now i'm looking at a big JD...

    Leaking valvecover 6466 (jd 4440)

When the 4440 have been run for a few hours and the engine oil is hot it leaks from the area around the valvecover. The oil can be seen just behind the ac compressor, running on the block. The leak isnt that big that it will drip but it is more than "sweating". Bought a new gasket for the...

    Turn up 4440?

I have a 1978 John deere 4440 that I sometimes need a little bit more power from when tilling. I dont use the PTO for more than about 30 hours a year and it does the pto work a 100 hp tractor could do.   But, as I said, when tilling it sometimes dont have the power enough to pull the machine...
