RTV gasket for D264 front covers etc.

First, I'm a very firm believer in modern RTV silicone sealers in place of gaskets in most places. I buy a gasket or make one only when there's a compelling reason not to use RTV, such as when a critical clearance is maintained by the gasket thickness, etc. That being said, is there any...

Aftermarket brake shaft, mislabeled or mis-made?

I ordered a brake pedal shaft for the SMD, looked up part number 357046R1 on the CaseIH site, ordered from an aftermarket source by that number, and the package came with that number on the label. As the photo illustrates, with the right hand ends matched up, the left hand end is all wrong...

Super M brake pedal shaft removal

It gets tight when I try to slide it out. Have pedals, etc. off both sides, cleaned/deburred exposed ends of shaft. Shaft rotates freely and moves back and forth freely an inch or two, then gets very tight. Do I just drive it on out of there?

    Bracket Identification Help

Looking for information of the pictured brackets. I think some are farmer made, and maybe who knows what for! Best guesses are welcome too. 1st pic is on the left front of a SMD. That's probably about a 3/8" thick plate with about a 1" thick reinforcement welded onto it at the attaching...

    Christmas tree valve

I would like to have a correct hydraulic valve for my stage 2 1953 SMD. There's one in the photo ads under "Tractors" with heading "Farmall two way hydro valve". Can someone tell me if it's correct for my tractor, and if it's worth the asking price? I'm in no hurry to buy, would just like...

    SMD D264 Rear Main Seal

The rear main wasn't leaking badly, but the front transmission seal was. I decided to split the tractor and fix them both, plus the clutch condition was unknown so I could look at that too. The rear main replacement is what I have questions about. The crankshaft has a spiral groove, the...

    M idles on main jet

I bought a SMTA with a reportedly fresh motor and a carb problem. I went through the carb and I'm confident I found the problem, some kind of sticky thick gunk running down out of the manifold had the throttle plate practically stuck, plus there was some bug carcasses in passages here and...

    New (to me) SMTA

Brought home a SMTA yesterday, my first. I ran across it back in February and made a verbal deal on it, but the guy wanted to get the clutch working before I took it. He had the engine and t/a rebuilt 5 years ago, and had the sheet metal painted, but then stopped on the restoration and it's...

Super MD transmission leak, front input seal?

I drained the molasses out of the tranny/diff yesterday and refilled it with diesel for a much needed wash down. This has revealed what appears to be a pretty significant tranny leak up front. I had thought the rear main seal was leaking a little, as I would get just a few drops after...

Where (all) is my injection pump leaking?

I think it's mostly just the gov. shaft seal. Can that be changed without going into the pump? The first two pictures show the wet place from the shaft down, running along the bottom of the pump, with some dripping onto the frame rail and some running on down the side of the engine block...

I think my SMD engine was white

I think the engine in my Super MD was originally white. That's probably a trivial fact, if it is a fact, but I think it's an interesting trivial fact. I have thought it's not the original engine for some time, and had seen clues that there was another color underneath the red, but until a...

Reproduction under seat battery box, are they all the same?

I need one for a Super MD. I don't mind spending a few dollars more for a good fit. The tractor is headed towards a paint job so finish is not as important as fit. Is any one better than another?

    Super MD, removing frame rails

Can I remove both frame rails at the same time while leaving the engine attached to the tractor and supported from underneath? If so, where should I support it? Oil pan? Torque tube? I have equipment to handle the bolster and will separate it from the rails first.

    Super MD Water Trap

I have the water trap off my Super MD for cleaning and there's a 3/8" brass plug loose inside the screen. I think it goes in the "side outlet" of the boss that the fuel comes through as it flows into the bowl, but I see no reason for this "side outlet" hole that has to be plugged if I'm right...
