    Ford 640 updraft carb questions no fuel at plugs

    A trick I often used on my 8n and Jubilee was to heat the manifold up with a propane torch. It helps the fuel atomize in the warm air better.

    How to attach the coil to the distributor cap for 8N Ford

    Did your cap look something like the one on this distributer. It was the way the PO had geared it up. I removed the innards from my coil and ran a wire through the old coil so I could run a roundcab coil but also keep my old square coil on top of my distributer to keep moisture and dust out.

    Like the others have said we need to know if your tractor has the distributer on the front of the engine or if its on the side. If you can post a picture of your old cap it would help. Some people added a wire in the middle of the old caps on front mount distributers to run a round can coil.

    I'd check to make sure the firing order is correct these old girls will run decent on only two cylinders but have no power.

    If it was me I'd at least take the carb off (easy) and clean it out and see if there is any leaking from the manifold. I'd suggest you take a hair dryer or a heat gun and dry it out. I use a torch which is quicker but not always safer and its harder on paint. Its easier than taking the hood...

    This may be a silly question but when you had the head off did you remove the manifold and carb and clean them out? If not it may be left over from before you changed the head.

    RING GEAR AND PINION RATIO?????

    A lot of the big old boats from the mid to late 70's had hi-way gears. The buicks olds pontiacs could be had with a 2.73:1 ratio. Most 1/2 tons have about 3.5:1 some could be had higher or lower the 80's ford F-150 2wd with the 300 inline 6 automatic usually had a 3.08:1 final ratio.
