    2001 790 Question

I understood that all newer tractors would have down pressure? I'm going from using a 1952 Ferguson TO 30 to a 2001 JD 790. I am very used to plowing with the ferg on gravel. Just upgraded to a tractor with a front bucket. Thanks for the reply! docgj

    2001 790 Question

Is there a way to set the hydraulics to allow a back blade to float? (No down pressure.) I would like to use it to plow snow on gravel driveway and not regrade the driveway at the same time. docgj

    Comparing TO-30 To JD 790

I have the chance to buy a JD 790. 30hp diesel, 4wd, loader. All reviews seem to agree that it has a lot of power for a compact. I will be keeping the Fergy and restoring it. Anyone have thoughts on the JD? Will it have the guts of the Fergy? Most of the reviews show owners using the same...

    Oil Pressure? Long Post

John, I tried your 3/4 throttle suggestion this weekend on the second pasture. Just about the same terrain as the other pasture. Fergy maintained the 20 lb oil pressure for the 4 hours it took me to brush hog it. THANKS! The air temp was about 20 degrees cooler than the previous attempt. Do...

    Oil Pressure? Long Post

The bush hog is 5 ft. Oil was changed at the end of spring. Maybe 25 hrs on this oil change. Yes I'm sure the slopes I'm using the fergie on are steeper than I should be on. I have been around and on this tractor since I was able to walk and am used to the controls well enough to make it go...

    Oil Pressure? Long Post

Thanks to all. Oil pressure has stayed at 20 lbs for 20 plus years. Though we never worked it as hard as brush hogging does. Yes I did blow out the cooling fins ou radiator from back side. Yes the plugs are fouled from oil. What do the plug extenders do? Didn't know about the 3/4 throttle thing...

    Oil Pressure? Long Post

1952 TO 30. Been in the family since it was new. Was rebuilt back in the 1960's. Last 30 years it has been used for mowing, some dirt work, and finish cut mowing. Started using it to power a brush hog (5 ft) about 3 years ago. Noticed this year that after working it for a couple of hours (For...

    Up and running

Glad to see you got her up and running. Nice looking property. Is that the correct position for the top link connection to the mower? I thought it should be down at approximately a 45 degree angle? docgj

    Stabilizer Bars

Just an update...The brackets on my TO 30 are slotted. I will try to lossen the bolts and slide the one that appears to have moved back to the correct position. Can't figure out how it moved? The only thing I can think of is I used a rear dirt scoop last summer to move 4 loads of fill dirt...

    TANNER ZANE THANG TODAY

Thanks for the replies. How does it work? Would it work to stop the front of my bush hog from dropping? I have to constantly adjust the lift control to keep the bush hog at a set height. I tried to adjust it using the draft control, but can't seem to get it to work? docgj

    Stabilizer Bars

Richard, I think the brackets are original. The tractor has been in the family for 50 plus years. No family member has taken an interest in fixing the tractor other than homemade parts and fixes. I'm trying to repair the things correctly as I can and have the time and money. docgj

    Stabilizer Bars

Thanks guys. The issue is that I'm not using the same hole on each side. I'll have to look tonight...Didn't realize that the bracket was slotted. I had someone do some work on the tractor a couple of years ago and they might have loosen them and moved one side. docgj
