Best Practices for IH Wet Sleeve Engines (886, 986, 1066, etc.)

I’m looking to purchase either an IH 886, 986, or 1066 to put to work. From what I’ve read, these tractors seem to be solid except for a weak point caused by cavitation in the cooling system, which destroys the sleeves. I’ve never been around any IH wet sleeve engines before, so I’m trying to...

Rear Engine Oil Leak on Gas IH 674 (C-200 Engine)

Hi, everyone! I am working on solving a bad oil leak on my gas IH 674. Engine oil is dripping from the bell housing. I will go through between one and two quarts of oil per day. I have the tractor split, thinking that the problem would be the rear main seal. However, this tractor does...

IH 674 Gas (C-200) Engine Balancer

I just finished an in-frame overhaul on a gas IH 674 that someone else pulled out from behind a barn and cranked up. Evidently, the exhaust valve on cylinder #1 broke apart and damaged pistons #1 and #2. I replaced all the pistons, had the head machined and all the valves replaced...

    Younger Generation

I hate to beat a dead horse, but with all this "young people" talk, I feel this song is poignant. It is 47 years old, but I think it sums up the opinions of the younger generation regarding the older folks and vice versa. I am not taking sides, but I think that many older people have always...

    Carburetor Cleaner

I have a gallon of carb cleaner I got from NAPA. The label says to soak a carb for 20 minutes, longer if it is really bad. 20 minutes is never enough time for it to work for me. If I take out all rubber parts (like the needle, gaskets, etc.), how long can I safely soak it? SF

I have a McCormick #30 wagon and I would like to know if there is any information out there on these. I have been wondering about it's weight rating, years of manufacture, etc. Thanks! SF

    700 Running Gear

I am rebuilding an old hay wagon that has been in my family for decades. It is an Allis Chalmers and has "700" stenciled on the side of the running gear. I cannot find a serial number tag, so I am assuming that the model is a 700. Does anyone have any information on this running gear such as...

    Cub Drawbar

I had this drawbar welded to the piece that the 59" belly mower tensioner pulleys attach to. It is a lot easier than taking the mower off just to pull a wagon! SF

    Old Gas

I have a mid nineties John Deere Gator that has just started acting funny. First, it wouldn't run at all, but that was solved with a carburetor cleaning and some Seafoam. Now it will crank fine and run good at high RPMs, but it won't idle. These pictures are of some gas that I drained out of it...

    130

I am helping a friend fix up his Farmall 130. It is burning oil. We are going to adjust valves and then check the pistons, sleeves, and rings. He doesn't have a book for it, but I have one for my 140. Is the information in my book compatible with his 130 (such as valve settings, etc.)? Is there...

    Applying Lime

I have cleared about 1/3-1/2 acre for a garden. It has set fallow for 25 years and turned into a small forest. I am now interested in putting about 750 lbs of lime on it because most natural soils in my area are about 5.5 pH. I am trying to decide the best way to do this. The most expensive...

    464 Bumper

I am looking for a front bumper for my 464 because mine got torn up, as you can see. Whenever I call a company and ask for a 464 bumper, they send me pictures that are different from what I have. I am starting to wonder if my bumper is actually off a different tractor. My bumper attaches to...

    Subsoiler

I recently bought a subsoiler to loosen and pull up roots in new ground and to run through my coastal bermuda hayfield. My problem is that when I let the 3 point hitch lever down all the way, the subsoiler only goes into the ground about 8 inches at best. The 3 point hitch is not going all the...

    Pulling Stumps

I have been clearing about 3/4 of an acre to start a garden. It has been let go for 20 years. I have been pulling trees and stumps out with a Farmall 140 and an International 464 diesel. The 140 does great pulling "140 size" material from the fast hitch drawbar. However, the 464 doesn't do quite...
