Farmall 140 Serial Number

From what I've seen, 99.9% of Farmalls must've come out of the factory with Rockford clutches.

I've only ever seen any other clutch, an "Auburn" on a Farmall A and/or a few Cubs.

It makes you wonder why IH bothered stamping the J, or bothered having clutches other than Rockford at all.

The Rockford was considered the heavy duty clutch. It turns out that there was little difference between it and the Auburn. All common replacements are Rockford design and compatible. Jim

Like I said, some people think it matters. Harvester considered them interchangeable and used whichever they had a shipment of. From what I have seen, the Auburns were much more common in the '40s. Later on, it went the other way.
