51 B Electric Start Mechanism Problem

Thank you for the information. After playing around with the linkage, I could not get it to turn over consistently. Once I confirmed by getting under the tractor that the linkage was indeed depressing the starter button completely, I took the starter button off. It looked to me like the...

51 B Electric Start Mechanism Problem

I have a 51 B with electric start. Has anyone ever had a problem before with the starter linkage not sufficiently engaging the switch on the starter? The starter and starter switch are recently replaced, so I know there is no issue there. The problem is that when you press the push button...

bad points to look out for on a JD model M

Check for a cracked head, it was a common issue and you will see many were welded. Depending on the welding job it could be fine. Make sure rear rims are not rusted out, they are expensive to replace. I think the front axle was a bit of a weak point and many cracked and were welded. I have...

1948 Model M - no pressure from hydraulic pump

Per online data it looks like that pump should be putting up 4.25 GPM at I assume high idle. If you can confirm you are getting this flow under no load I would think the pump is functional.

1948 Model M - no pressure from hydraulic pump

If you have verified that there is flow coming out of the pressure line then for the moment I will assume the pump is okay. I would suspect the valve is the culprit at this point. Pumps generate flow not pressure. Can you lower the blade and then stop it immediately? That would be one way to...

    MT Equipment

James Would you be able to take a picture of one of your 3 point hitch equipped M tractors lifting something with the 3 point hitch? I have heard that you can't lift very high before the top link interferes with the seat. I would like to get an idea as to how high I can expect to lift?

    52 John Deere M Temp

I restored my 1951 M and kept the original temp gauge. I never tested it, and assumed it just did not work because it never registered. For the most part the tractor is very lightly used. This past weekend I spent several hours spreading manure with it in 85 degree weather and the old gauge...

John Deere 420, newly rebuilt, no oil pressure

Either the cam bearing is not inserted correctly or the oil pump is shot. I rebuilt the same motor on my M and had very low oil pressure when I started it up. It turned out that the oil pump was shot, bought a used one and it runs great. There is a procedure with feeler gauges to determine...

Adjusting a clutch on an M

Are you sure you are turning the adjustment screw within the jam nut, and not just the jam nut? Try loosening the jam nut, then while holding the jam nut with a wrench try to turn the adjustment screw clockwise with a screw driver. Sometimes they can be stubborn, some penetrating oil may help.

    zero turn mowers

I have run the older commercial units (737 and 757) and found them to be rock solid and very comfortable. The 7 iron welded deck on them is very stout. They did have an overheating issue where grass could build up around the cooling fins and they would bend pushrods or warp heads. Also keep...

    M John Deere 2 cylinder

I have noticed that it does seem to keep a high oil level, and it never seems to decrease on the dipstick even though it is clearly leaking out of the rear main seal which puzzled me. Oil also gets a gray color to it. I have never had any issue with the touch o matic system not functioning...

    M John Deere 2 cylinder

So your rear main seal leakage issue was related to the touch o matic seal going bad? Maybe that's what I have going on? How would I check or confirm?

    M John Deere 2 cylinder

It will be fairly extensive, but not terrible. All the components on the front of the engine will need to come off including the radiator and touch o matic pump. I had the front pedestal removed when I did mine, I am not sure if there is room to do all that work with it attached. I replaced...

International 200 Manure Spreader Apron Chain

Thank you all for the feedback. I will review all the options listed and see what is most cost effective. I need to make sure the tensioning system is not seized up to make sure I can get a new one on.
