1949 A generator curved adjustment bracket

Thanks, the smart move would be an alternator in the long run but trying to keep it original or at least close to it. Found a bracket that 60-66 chevys used that will probably work, since the rebuilt Ginny is working good will keep it on till I right the correct one at a decent price

1949 A generator curved adjustment bracket

Matthies, thanks for the insight on the gennys, after thinking about it I figure that when I got the 50 I just assumed that was correct. The new genny for my A is obviously not correct since the case is different, I got it on line so my bad, lesson learned. I’ll go on the hunt for a correct A...

1949 A generator curved adjustment bracket

Like I said the genny on my 50 was the one that was on the tractor when I bought it 30+ years ago and has worked fine since then, 12v, positive GND. The new genny that I had rebuilt came off another A and hopefully going on my A. I know the rebuilt A genny works, I guess I need to figure out...

1949 A generator curved adjustment bracket

had to get a new genny for my 49 A, the case is different from the one I had on it, the bottom 2 mounting holes line up fine, no problem, but the top hole for the belt adjustment is different. My model 50 generator has a curved connecting piece that fits and connects to the mounting adjustment...

    Model R manure Spreader Resto

Our club restored a spreader for the local FFA club to use for their safe tractor operation competition. Since it isn’t used to spread manure anymore we painted the beaters yellow to match the wheels even though we knew they came green from the factory. We all agreed it gave it a sharper look...

    1938 JD G

Sorry don’t have the serial number, rims are not spokes, it is a older restoration, and I dont believe it is a low radiator, haven’t had a chance to look at it in person yet. People think that if they spend 10k fixing something then it’s worth at least that, but of course that isn’t how the...

    1938 JD G

local non profit farm is trying to sell a 1938 G that was donated to them, it runs nice, good tires and above average paint, they said it was professionaly restored so that could mean a lot of different things. They are asking 12k for it which seems too high, it is on FB marketplace with a short...

    Generator issues

When I grounded the field post I didn’t check the voltage, I meant to say it was showing 14.6 while just running, something with the internals of the generator isn’t right, that’s the only thing I can figure out, I will see what the shop has to say after I drop it off

    Generator issues

got in one more try before sunset, tried going from the field stud to a good ground, nothing on the amp meter, still showing 14.6 volts coming off the field stud, going to take it to my generator guy, the connection from the genn/ VR to the meter checked ok,

    Generator issues

Did alttle more troubleshooting, the field stud is showing 14.5 volts when running and the arm stud is showing only about 8.5 volts. Nothing getting to the battery since it shows just a tad below 12 volts when running. Will revisit my clean up on the grounds tomorrow and might just take the...

    Generator issues

JD50, 12 volt, positive ground, distributor, genny was working fine but was green, ugh, took it off to paint it black, reinstalled and no juice going to the amp meter, ran a jumper from the genny to a good ground and it started charging, ok should be a simple fix. Cleaned off everything to bare...

JD 50 thermostat - yes or no

My 1953 50 always runs on the cold side too, had it in a 4th of July parade with the outside temp of 95 and the needle was barely off the cold mark. Knock on wood never have an issue with the plugs fouling up, runs good but she is a parade/ show queen now. Going to plow with it tomorrow so I’ll...

    JD 50 - no fire

Thanks for the heads up on using sandpaper on my points, never thought it would make a big difference. I’m putting in some new ones this spring and will try the card stock method

    JD 50 - no fire

From a fellow 50 owner, if you put in new points try cleaning them up some, a bit of emery paper or maybe 220 grit sandpaper, they might have a film on them right out of the box. The sediment bowls are notoriously for leaking over time, I have put in a shutoff valve between the bowl and the carb...

    John Deere H manure spreader

Getting close to being done, just some touch up paint and waiting for the decals to arrive. It isn’t expo quality but 100% better than it was, hopefully the FFA kids will get many more years out of it. Putting the wheels on wasn’t too bad, there are engagement pawls which were spring loaded to...
