    420 starter

Others mentioned rocking the wheel with tractor in gear. I have a neighbor with a 320 that has a lot of trouble with starter sticking. Sometimes rocking it will work but if you have implement down it doesn't rock. I keep wrench in tool box as it seems moving starter slightly works best. They...

    420 starter

I would first check to see if starter is stuck in ring gear, take it a little loose and move it around. Heat generally means a bad connection somewhere. Switch on top of starter may not be making good contact with the button underneath of it. remove switch on starter and see what contact...

    What brand brush hog this?

It looks a lot like my King Cutter but I think a lot of the brands were built pretty similar

    ATV/lawn mower hydraulic lift

I have one like the picture above I got from Harbor Freight on sale. Seems the work ok. I had to change hydraulic jack after a while on mine but just used cheap jack. Car ramps always seemed to get in the way and tractor loader is a bit overkill.

    Deere #5 sickle mower?

I have on I used on several different tractors. If the hookup is for an M or MT it is narrower than used on the standard JD quick hitch.

    single front wheel Farmall questions

I put a single front wheel assembly on 560 that came off of a SMTA so guessing an M or SM would work.

1950 M Farmall clutch, installed new clutch and pressure plate. now when engage clutch cant shift without grinding gears,

Years ago when I put new clutch plate and pressure plate in my SMTA I had the same problem. I split it again and adjusted the pressure plate per service book. They are supposed to be right when you get them but mine wasn't. Worked fine after adjusting fingers on PP.

IH 674 gas - convert to electronic ignition? Worth it?

You have lots of opinions from the usual pro and con here. I have converted 2 tractors and a jeep to EI and would never go back. Good condensors seem to be hard to find these days, and new and points and condensor setup is no longer cheap. Once the EI is set up it takes no maintenance. I am...

    560 Hydraulics explained

I fought with hydraulic pressure on 560 for several years until I went into rear and totally cleaned out reservoir. Just because you changed filter a while ago don't be sure it isn't plugged. If your disc cylinder had crap in it it could be plugged again. Do you have power steering and does...

    fast hitch step for 560

I found a step from a JD 60 I believe that I mounted ahead of the left fender so I can mount fro the front. It had the light rod out there so I took it off and put a 3/4 inch bolt in the hole for a handle. I think I found it on ebay where they showed various tractor steps.

    Jd 440 power steering

There are or were a couple aftermarket torque generators for those that go in steering column. I think the Charlyn is still available but expensive. Some guys have worked out electric units from cars but it depends upon how much room you have. Otherwise it would be to find a salvage tractor...

    DU AL 345 loader

Messicks has a parts breakdown on at least some Dual loaders, I was able to find one for my 325 anyway. On the 325 it isn't a big deal to rebuild cylinders, Messicks had kits but I found one on ebay cheaper. If cylinder rod has scratches it may not seal up. You need spanner wrench. I made...

Complete kits show up on Classifieds on YT from time to time. Torque generators like Char Lynn still available from Surplus Equipment but are spendy. You might try advertising on here as someone my have an old setup they don't need anymore.

Buying a Torque Wrench... First Time!

I have the 1/2 heavy De Walt battery impact wrench. It will tighten most bolts and nuts and also remove most of them. You sometimes need a breaker bar to get them started. It is heavy to use but I find I use it more than my air impact since I got it, even at the shop where I have access to...

    A3162R hydraulic cylinder

Is that one of the old, 2 cylinder ones? I rebuilt oe several years ago, most of the seals weren't available from JD but I was able to find some. I used the leather from an old boot for leather seal.

Lost wrench inside of tractor as i was getting my shifter unstuck...ideas of getting out

I agree with pulling pto out. It is heavy but if you check book it says to put some longer bolts in without heads to slide it out with. I had to pull mine a couple years ago on 560 to go in and clean case out.

Brake fluid - need to change?

I took my 06 Impala for an oil change. They said I should change one of the power steering lines as it fails around 50,000 miles sometimes. I didn't and car had the same line on it when I sold it at 185,000. Dealers like to sell you parts and service.
