Sheppard SD3 no fuel one cylinder

This is posted for a buddy of mine. He's working on a Sheppard SD-3 Sheppard tractor has a number one fuel pump problem that I have not figured out yet I can get it started and it runs on two of the three cylinders, but the number one cylinder is getting no fuel at all. There is no name on the...

A new John Deere MI website

A buddy of mine has been working on a new website dedicated to the little ittty bitty MI. I've been glad to help with what I can and he's already gathered more information than I've been able to in decades. If anyone is interested it's at www.johndeeremi.com Hope it helps some one! Brandon

    Detroit Harvester Street Sweepers

Does anyone have a 30s/40s era Detroit Harvester Street Sweeper? I have a guy looking to rebuild one on a 1930s Deere and he'd like any details. I'd love pictures, literature, anything. I suspect most of it was interchangable between brands. I'd love a parts book haha Thanks, Brandon

Convert 3rd brush gen to regulator

What does it take to convert a 3rd brush gen to a fully regulated gen? This would be a Delco Remy generator. All I can think is move the brush to full output, but then would you just wire the regulator as normal? I haven't compared the terminals on the different generators but I thought they...

    Tractor accessory grounding with wires

I'll be wiring a tractor, eventually. Simple, 6 volt, positive ground. Just generator and lights. It would normally rely on chassis grounds, light housing to light bracket, to radiator, to engine, then to transmission. Especially since a lot of stuff has been painted I'm debating running...

    JohnT, help, polarizing generators debate

I've always followed the JohnT instructions for polarizing generators. Flashing BAT power to ARM post. I posted this somewhere and started a mini argument, from a guy who always flashed BAT to FIELD. He stated source as the JD electrical manual. Others have been on one side or the other. I...

    Rear axle mount bolt pattern

Rear Axle bracket hole spacing? I'm talking the square implement mounting pads, specifically on a 60 but they're all the same. I know the Deere rear axles are 5/8 studs, and 3 1/2 inches apart vertically....how far apart are they horizontally? Forgot to measure and it'd be very helpful to...

6v Generator pass motor test but burned wire?

I just went thru a new to me generator, older one, Delco, off a JD B, 3 brush. Some of the field insulation was torn but seems ok. Cleaned up the commutator, new bearing. Finally tried the motor test today. 6 volt, power to A, grounded F, it took off. Ungrounded F and it sped up. At some...

Ohms of field coils in generator

Working on a non functional generator. What is the typical ohm reading for the field coils, this is 6 volt. I'm using a multimeter from the Field stud to the brush....Unless there's a better way to test? They are isolated from ground, I'm seeing 2.0 ohms. Pic is just me testing stuff Thanks...

    Pony Spark plug removal tip

Changing the back two plugs on a Rowcrop pony start diesel is....fun. It was suggested to me in the past to pull the starter, which does give lots of needed room. But that's also plenty of extra work. I had a thought the other day and decided to try it. Get a set of thru ratchet and sockets. My...

    Bottom of Power Steering pedistal

I have a new to me PS spindle. I'm going to rebuild it at some point. I've never had a rowcrop spindle apart. The bottom of it looks...weird in the center? Will it cause any problem Is Deere still the only place for the various seals and bushings I might need? I haven't done this in a...

    Pony oil pressure trending low

Been having a reoccurring problem with low oil pressure on my 70 pony. It was rebuilt a few years ago and had run fine for years, though I never had an oil pressure gauge on it (after the first few times) just an oil pressure switch on the ignition. After I started running a gauge it was...

    Fix/Rig leaning shed foundation

Not a whole lot I can add. Shed was built in the 50s. The block foundation is leaning pretty bad and crumbling because of it. I have a light duty front end loader, and bottle jacks. I've thought about jacking it up but not sure how I'd shift it square again or fix the lean. Any dumb ideas...

    Foot clutch for 60

Just a little experiment I did making a foot clutch. Not the best but works. Yes, I know not to stop with the pulley brake. Just testing https://youtube.com/shorts/N1ZsP2Ve9LI?feature=share

    Hydraulic hose brackets?

I have an old Deere loader I rigged a dump bucket on. While testing I have the hoses ziptied in place. Do I need to really worry about vibration/rubbing? I'm wondering if I should make some hose brackets or what your solutions might be. Brandon

My 60 with 45 loader, hyd tilt bucket, and 3 point

Making a repost in classic view since it doesn't seem to like me I'm nowhere near done with this project but I'm very happy to be able to test it! Dual Baker valves, which was not fun to fit with a live PTO. Required some thinking and work. I also upgraded the hydro pump idler lube, and...

Modifying my 60 with 45 loader, hyd tilt bucket, and 3 p

I'm nowhere near done with this project but I'm very happy to be able to test it! Dual Baker valves, which was not fun to fit with a live PTO. Required some thinking and work. I also upgraded the hydro pump idler lube, and managed to do it without removing the governor. A little...

    Tire Chains

I would like opinions on what type of tire chains I should look for, or any tips on them. I've never used a set, to be honest. I know that some types are known to fall between the lugs and not do much good. This is on a Deere MI with 11.2x24 tires, I've found it to be a pretty good snow machine!

Playing with my "new" snow mover

It's either this or the 60 or 70D with a rear blade. The MI is a neat little rig, though I wish backblading was more...doable. The frame stops that except for very light backblading. I'll be cussing myself when I'm raking stone in the spring haha
