    John Deere 140 Engine Issue

My 1968 JD 140, SN3457, 12hp Kohler, starts and runs fine for about 20-30 minutes of mowing and then sputters/sometimes backfires and then dies unless I back off the throttle. It will continue to run and mow at about half throttle, but will sputter and die if throttle is increased. It has new...

    50 W question

In 1953, high clearance Model "50" tractor serial numbers were recorded as they came off the line as "50-W" (wide front) and "50-N" (16" single front). JD BN/BNH ?

As stated previously, there was no BNH designation beginning with the Late-Styled Model "B". If the rear axle casting is B2406R, the tractor is considered a "BN" (a B2405R casting would be found on the regular row crop Model "B").

    Solid rear wheels

Those are 12x28 pressed steel wheels and the part # is JD3007T. They are still available new from Deere for $700+ each. They are difficult to find used in decent condition because of Calcium Chloride leaks from loaded tubes.

When adjusting the lift arms on a JD 800 hitch (not an 800A or 801), what is the maximum amount they can be lowered? How many inches of threads need to be left in the housing?

Hey tractorbafoon, If there is someone out there that will sell you a one-of-94-built tractor for $3K or less, they are a bigger "bafoon" than you. Oh, and I just looked at those AZ units a couple of months ago (in AZ) and they are still owned by the same gentleman that has owned them for years...
