    Question on Self propelled combines

My question below on Gleaners with Chevy engines got me to thinking about how SP combines work. There is a gearbox and drivetrain. How is the separator driven? Does the separator have an in/out clutch? Have never had a chance to look at one. Garry

    Gleaners with 250 Chevy Engines

Was wondering if anyone knows what model Gleaners used 250 cubic inch Chevrolet engines and about what years they were used? A friend wants to put a 250 or 292 into a Allis Chalmers WC tractor and he was told that there is an adapter plate on the combines that mates the engine to an Allis...

    4000SU spark plug reach

I am working on Ford 4000SU gasoline tractor for a friend. The spark plugs that were in it are long reach, but the ads for new plugs that I see appear to be short reach plugs. Any information is appreciated. Garry

Was there a John Deere Model 12 Combine

I grew up riding a John Deere Model 12-A combine with a sacking platform in place of the grain bin. After reading a thread on here about the JD Model 11, I was wondering if they ever built a Model 12? I never knew what the 'A' meant. Thanks, Garry

    New Holland 4630 clutch pilot

Does anyone know if the Ford/New Holland 4630 tractor uses a bushing or bearing for the transmission clutch pilot? A friend has one that is scraping going into gear. The pedal free play seems about right, might need taking up a bit. Any other ideas welcome. Thanks Garry

    3600 CAV Pump Fitting

A friend has a 3600 ag tractor that has a broken plastic fuel line. This line goes from the fuel filter housing to a fitting on the cover plate for, I think its called, the timing port. Vermeer TM700 Cutter Bar Shaft

I am helping a friend work on his Vermeer TM700 disc mower. Only the two discs closest to the gear box are being driven. From the looks of parts diagrams for similar mowers, the cutters are driven by a hex shaft(maybe three piece shaft) that runs the length of the bar. This shaft seems to be...

    Vermeer TM700 Disc mower shaft

I am helping a friend work on a Vermeer TM700, pull type disc mower. It seems to have sheared part of the cutter bar drive shaft. Only the first two discs are turning being driven by the gearbox. I have not found a parts list for this particular mower, but have one for a MC840. It looks like the...

    Scag Zero Turn Wheel Motors

I have a Scag Turf Tiger that needs both wheel motors replaced, and was wondering if anyone on the forum has any experience with aftermarket motors marketed by Sten's and others. These aftermarket replacements cost anywhere from $320 to $400. The motors from Scag are about $750 each. I only put...

3000 Lift Won't Stop Raising When In Position Control

Tractor is a Ford 3000 and the problem is with the 3 point lift. When raising in position control, once the control handle gets to a certain point on the quadrant, the lift arms will not stop raising and continue all the way to the fully raised position. This happens when the handle reaches...

    John Deere 5203 IPTO Slipping

A friend has a JD 5203, has about 500 hours, and the pto clutch is slipping. It would not even make 1/2 a roll on a small Hesston 530 baler before it quit turning the pto shaft. Switched baler to another tractor, worked fine with no problem. Was wondering how the pto clutch was designed and...

    Honda Carb Drain Plug

I have a Honda Sportrax 90 ATV that has the petcock built into the float bowl assembly. On the bottom of the petcock part of the casting is an aluminium drain plug of about 3/4 inch diameter. This plug has a hole corroded through it about 1/16 inch in size. Does anyone have any ideas on how to...

    JD 385 Round Baler-Bale Tension

A friend bought a JD 385 round baler. I was looking at it briefly and could not see how it put tension on the bales. I figure hydraulic, but only saw the two cylinders for the tailgate operation. We have a Hesston 530 with the big springs for tension, so that is what I am used to. Have worked on...

I am helping a friend work on a 1974 135 Deluxe with power steering. It had a failure in the area where the power assist rack engages the sector gear. Lanse in Texas?

I see a few posts from Lanse on here from time to time. Did he move to Texas? I was wondering what kind of job he got or if he is in business for himself? Welding, fabricating? Seems to be doing well and that is good to see. I guess I have been out of the loop on what he is currently doing...
